[ Personality ] :
Sebastian is a Jamaican crab serving as trusted advisor and court composer for the king of Atlantica, an underwater realm oddly close to a suspiciously-European-esque kingdom. Somehow, this makes perfect sense, and these are duties that he takes very seriously because they are important and they make him important. In fact, if he were a dish, he’d be stuffed crab; the little guy’s just full of himself. Despite his tiny size, Sebastian has a big ego and loves the attention, to the point that he will embellish certain facts to even his own parents in order to get it. He has all of the stereotypical flaws that come with being a pompous windshell too; he talks big right before displaying impressive cowardice, is a snooty little snob, and hates being humiliated. Clearly, he knows what’s what, and if he were the one in charge, well, this is how he’d do things.

In some cases, the little crab even knows what the hell he’s bubbling on about. Musical composition is an art form he excels at anytime and anyplace, and it can be argued that he’s more knowledgeable on several matters than even King Triton himself. Sebastian even shows that he has a very good grasp on the workings of romance, and he has exceptional skill in social niceties, such as the organizing of parties and gatherings. He’s got talent and know-how, and he’s very aware of it. He even often finds himself in the role of royal babysitter, where he shows a keen ability to whine and complain and fret and help certain mermaids break the rules anyway. Your daughters sure are safe with him! No worries about them flitting off to marry human princes they’ve just barely met or anything!

The thing is, Sebastian’s attitude is more or less all meaningless posturing. Under that layer of self-importance, he can be quite a reliable and sympathetic fellow. He tries his hardest to be strict and cling to his appointed authority, but when it comes down to it, more often than not, he’ll put someone else’s happiness before his own sense of duty. His loyalty to those he cares for can never even be called into question, and for all his fussing and boasting, his intentions are good at the core. Most of the time.

One would think that a court composer as esteemed as Sebastian would be pretty... composed. But while he certainly does try to present himself this way, the truth is, you could perhaps say he’s... prawn to getting steamed. He has an abundance of temper and a lack of patience, which is never a good mix. And to make it worse, he’s more melodramatic than the teenaged girls he looks after, often letting his imagination get the better of him. Sometimes he’s just inside himshell with worry or fear, and this can lead him to overreacting, whether or not it’s unfounded. But that doesn’t mean he can’t hold himself together when his friends need him to. Sebastian is actually quite capable of holding his own when it counts. He’s also perfectly capable of letting loose and having a good time. In fact, when life’s not going all wrong on him, Sebastian loves to surround himself with music and people and just have fun.

His life shore can be hard, but at the end of the day, you can count on Sebastian to not crack under the pressure.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Sebastian has many strengths, and he’d gladly talk about all of them. His talent and love for musical composition and performance are a huge part of his character. He’s very intelligent, and good at thinking outside the shell. His loyalty and dependability are also some of his greatest strengths, and despite his attitude, he has certain magnetism that lures people together like worms on a hook for random fun and musical numbers.

As for his weaknesses, well... let’s address the whale in the room. He’s got a big issue with his little size, and one could easily assume that this insecurity feeds into his great ego. Sebastian is so stuck on being impressive and important that he will even sink low enough to lie. He struggles in the net of guilt when it comes to following orders or doing what he feels is the right thing, even if he does make the best choice in the end. And he worries and frets a lot, sometimes being reduced to a nervous shipwreck.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
Sebastian is a Disney character, meaning he sometimes breaks out in song for no reason and this is perfectly normal, somehow. He also seems to be perfectly fine spending lots of time out of water, has teeth, and speaks in a thick Jamaican accent. While not outright puns, the sea-living characters in his canon use ocean-related terms casually in everyday conversation; an example being when Ariel is “beached.” (Grounded.)

[ Sample ] :
[Scuttle scuttle. Scuttle scuttle. What’s that sound? Why, it’s the sound a small Caribbean crab makes as it drags its starfish device down the street, muttering and grunting to itself. This could... take a while...]

The nerve of these humans, as if stealing innocent fish from the sea wasn’t enough for them, now they go and take the whole sea for themselves, too! They have no manners, scribbling on unsuspecting fishfolk like this. When I find that girl I’m going to give her a piece of my mind and drag her straight--

[A high-pitched, completely undignified sound escapes from the crab’s mouth as the thing he’s dragging starts making noise, and he tucks his legs and head into his shell in the blink of an eye. The device stops, and the crab gives it a wary poke.]

[Nothing.]

[With a relieved sigh, the crab appears to relax.]

Letting her go was a mistake, and if it was up to me I’d--

[The device goes off again, and the crab is gone. If any unknown observers really cared to find it, they might notice a little, shaking, red-shelled something hiding under a stray scrap of paper a good few feet away. He’s not scared or nothing, he’s just keeping an eye on that suspcious thing from a perfectly reasonable distance!]

[Sebastian doesn’t know what’s going on, but if there’s humans and strange starfish-shaped human things, he’s sure Ariel is involved somehow, and he will get to the bottom of this nonsense and save her.]

[...This really might take a while.]
