[ History ] :
I have a responsibility to the world.

[ Personality ] :

Care and devotion turned water into the seeds of life.

Each of the warriors of light possesses the essence of one of the world’s elemental crystals - the essences of passion, devotion, courage and hope belong to the crystals of wind, water, fire and earth respectively. They were chosen to receive the essences because they fitted them best and the virtues that those essences represent are so strong within them that they are able to rebuild the world from nothing with only those virtues. Lenna possesses the essence of devotion. Her capacity for love is so great and her dedication to her people, her duties and her values so strong that she was able to return the element of water to the world. That capacity for love is one of her defining traits. Lenna cares. She cares recklessly and without discrimination. She cares knowing full well that doing so has hurt her more than anything in the past and that it will continue to do so in the future. She cherishes the lives and happiness of everyone around her and cannot stand to see others in distress.

She has a very strong sense of justice and fairness. She often does things simply because they are the right thing to do, and helps people because it’s wrong that the world has made them suffer. Though she’ll freely give without asking anything in return, she feels bound to repay anyone who helps her and is apologetic when she can’t, no matter how good her reasons. Early in the game she is rescued by Bartz and is unable to use anything but words to express her gratitude because she’s investigating a threat to the world and can’t afford to stop. She apologizes for her rudeness, and shows a great deal of regret that she can’t pay her debt. Despite the facts that he doesn’t expect anything from her and that were she in his place, wouldn’t have expected anything either she still feels that she owes him a great deal. She also doesn’t pass on burdens without an extremely good reason. Nothing is just ‘someone else’s problem’ and if she honestly can’t do something about an injustice, she’ll take it upon herself to seek out someone who can. Responsibility and her duties are what guide her, and she’ll never neglect them.

The idea of sacrifice is one she has been raised with. As a child, she was forced to allow her mother to die rather than taking the cure - a wind drake’s tongue - because killing the last wind drake would be an act of great cruelty, no matter what the intention. This lesson has stuck with her fast, and she will never harm an innocent no matter what the consequences of this inaction. As well as fuelling her strong values, the incident was an important lesson to her - she knows full well that she can’t help everyone, no matter how hard she tries. And she knows that there will always be times when sacrifices have to be made, and that as much as she wishes to she can’t always choose to be the one sacrificed. She knows that there are a lot of difficult choices in the world, and she doesn’t falter when faced with them because she’s learned that by following the ideals she’s been taught - justice, fairness, and kindness - she’ll always find an answer that she can choose without regrets. When she goes to protect the crystals, she’s faced with the fact that many people in her country will suffer as a result of her absence but chooses to protect the world instead because she has the power to do so and if she fails to act then far more people will suffer. Later, she has to make the same choice again - abandoning her kingdom potentially forever for a new world or leaving a friend to die and potentially allowing a great evil to escape and harm more people and once again her values guide her to the right answer. After her father’s death she learns to respect the sacrifices of others - her father and the warriors of dawn. She will mourn, but she won’t call anyone foolish for giving up their life or happiness for a greater cause, and she won’t squander anything that has taken a sacrifice to gain.

Despite learning some harsh lessons young and likely having the best formal education of the warriors of light (minus maybe Galuf, but he’s forgotten it all), she has lived a very sheltered life. As a result she’s incredibly naive. Her trusting nature gets her into a lot of trouble near the start of the game, when she has amazing ideas like ‘ask the pirates for a lift really really nicely because pirates really like politeness’. She develops past her naivety eventually, but her behaviour never changes. She just goes from trusting people because she doesn’t know not to to trusting people because she believes all people deserve her trust. She knows it’s possible someone might hurt her and she accepts that risk because she believes all people deserve a chance to do the right thing - she’d rather be hurt than decide that anyone is hopeless. Her trust is easy to gain and difficult to lose without being cruel. But being a conscious choice rather than just not knowing any better doesn’t make her trusting nature any less of a weakness when someone takes advantage of it. At one point she and the party are very easily tricked into fighting a creature that was protecting the crystal when her father asks her to, despite acknowledging earlier that he may well be being controlled by the enemy.

She does not doubt herself. She is willing to admit fault but will never wallow in it, accepting her mistakes and working to right any damage that has been caused by them and then moving on. Despite always being humble and respectful, she knows that she is strong and has achieved a great deal and it shines through in the way she speaks and carries herself. She doesn’t mind others forgetting this, but she’ll be quick to remind them that she is present, very capable and that everyone in her presence is under her protection if she believes they might hurt someone. She knows her strengths and her limits and is honest with herself and others about both. Usually.

Because sometimes she does really, really stupid things. Like telling others she is completely fine when she really (and quite obviously) isn’t. And eating poison. Not by mistake, but consciously deciding ‘this is poisonous and I should eat it anyway’. She has a bad habit of deciding that sacrificing herself is probably the ideal solution to problems and a worse habit of not listening to others when they tell her that no, it really isn’t.

She’s been raised as one would expect a princess to be - she’s unfailingly polite, very retrained in disposition, especially compared to her much more excitable teammates and, when she’s in Tycoon, a capable leader. She acts as the party’s ‘face’ fairly often, usually in situations where the ability to convince people to do something is valuable, such as speaking with the King of Walse. She’s very well educated, and is usually the one to provide exposition explain concepts to her teammates. But her knowledge is all from books and she has some difficulty protecting herself in real-life situations sometimes. Out of all the characters in her canon she needs rescuing the most.

All of the warriors of light go through a great deal, but Lenna gets a particularly bad lot. In no particular order and just including the things that happen only to her rather than to the whole cast (...or we’d be here all day), she loses her father first to possession and then to death, is trapped in the void alone, is possessed, kills her own dragon while possessed, has her kingdom absorbed into the void and is threatened with being sold into slavery or held for ransom on two separate occasions. None of this manages to break her, and only her father’s death and her reunion with Hiryuu get much of an outburst out of her. She’s very emotionally hardy. She doesn’t believe admitting distress is weakness, but doesn’t allow it to keep her from doing what’s right. She’s a lot more positive early in the game than later on (though this may be more due to being compared to Krile later on), but remains cheerful and kind and helpful, even after everything she’s been put through, and it takes a lot to even make her conviction waver for a moment.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :

✔ She can keep her composure (and her smile) through near anything. She’s a princess, before anything else, and she acts the part.

✔ She’s a Warrior of Light, chosen by the crystals. What this means in practical terms is that she has the ability to switch between and learn the skills of various ‘jobs’. These jobs all have their own unique abilities, allowing Lenna to be a very flexible fighter. It’s kind of complicated, so I’ll go over it in Important Facts. But it’s definitely a strength.

✔ She’s well-educated. On topics that she would be educated on in her medieval fantasy-type world, at least.

✔ She can fight in high heels and gdit I am counting that as a strength.

✘ She’s very naive!

✘ What is a sense of self preservation? She does not have one of those.

✘ And she is one of those ‘I AM OKAY. REALLY. HONEST’ types if sick or hurt.

[ Other Important Facts ] : Final Fantasy V’s job system allows her to switch between ‘jobs’ any time she’s outside of battle. Different jobs give her different abilities - for example as a white mage she can heal people and as a knight she can stab things. Technically she can use the abilities of jobs she has mastered as any job BUT THAT IS GETTING TOO COMPLEX so I’m just going to. Stick with the basic ‘be job, gain abilities’.

List of Final Fantasy V jobs! She’s from post-game, so she has access to all but the advance-exclusive ones (which are post-game content and so of dubious canon-ness.)

[ Sample ] :
I won't demand it - this is not Tycoon, I know, and I am no princess here - but it would be nice. (Dear_Mun Post)
