Rita Mordio | Tales of Vesperia | Reserved (2/3)

[ Strengths ] :
Rita's level of genius, in the overall, is in the "best in world" class - at age 15, her raw intelligence and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new things compares favorably to the likes of such fictional figures as Reed Richards, tempered primarily by relatively limited experience - which can, and has, worked to her advantage in some cases (allowing her to, for example, when presented with the problem of having to break the only source of magic in the world to save humanity, come up with a basic way to use a new form of magic within a matter of days). Even books along the lines of the Necronomicon go into her head, and the useful bits come out, with no difficulty.

In no area does this come out more than in Rita's talent for spellcrafting. She's developed many of the greatest Blastia formulae of recent generations, and has presumably been on the leading touch of new forms of development - including mana and electricity-based devices - since the forced destruction of blastia in the name of saving humanity and the planet. Her spell range goes from classic effects like Fireball to the mighty destructive force spells of Ancient Catastrophe and Indignation.

If forced into a melee combat, Rita's actually surprisingly good with a whip or sash as a weapon. A dedicated melee combatant will almost assuredly best her, but she at least can stall for time.

[ Weaknesses ] :
Rita has a hard time being social with anyone. She's lived the vastest majority of her life only incidentally relying on other people, her parents having died when she was too young to remember their faces. The result has made it so that the only people she really has much trust for, or ability to work with, are those she's traveled with for some time. Further, she hasn't precisely learned how to get along well with others too well - a prime example being her tendency to quicky resort to physical violence at anything and anyone that annoys her, most often emblemized in the form of the collaquial Rita Punch - which is capable of knocking the (for his age) terrifyingly strong Karol Capel on his butt even when he sees it coming. These antisocial tendencies also come into tending to her appearance - or rather, not doing so much at all. Her clothes are basically scrounged together, and hewn for practicality and pocket space only.

When she does get to the point of trusting someone, she tends to become more than a little dependent on them. In no case is this more demonstrable than with her increasingly dere-dere relationship with Estelle. Quite simply, when it comes to the princess, Rita's completely and utterly spineless, and can be talked into going along with any idea Estelle has - even when Rita really should know better. (Though, admittedly, in many cases, Rita hasn't yet had the amount of social experience to know better...)

Rita's intelligence can work against her sometimes. Every so often, Rita will get mentally sidetracked in mid conversation, mumbling about details on one or another theory. Further, she's prone to treating some spells as "beneath her". Further... She views money management as beneath her, besides the practice of marking her name on every coin and object that crosses her path, "that it may return with its friends some day". Yes, even food sometimes.

Rita is capable of failing common-sense checks as basic as "Don't pull a dog's tail to try and cheer him up". (Yes, Repede bit her for that one.)

Rita's only irrational fears are ghosts, and the secret ingredient in Yuri Lowell's cooking. (Both turned out to be perfectly rational...)

[ Other Important Facts ] : (Okay, I put Important and/or Interesting here...)
* Rita's heavier magic was previously dependent on Blastia... But as she learns new energy types, she's likely to quickly relearn them, as far as Vatheon will allow.
* Rita had an unidentified object in her dresser. Only Estelle has ever seen it, and when she did, the screen (besides her) turned black. Neither has ever spoken aloud the secret that is in Rita's dresser...
* Rita's wiki entry links to a list of her spells, though it can't quite explain things like her infamous Tidal Wave loop (a combination of skill settings that allows her to, with no limit, cast the powerful Tidal Wave magic over and over again).
* Rita starts viewing monsters as only existing to be defeated as things go on.
* Rita seems to get along well with dogs, or at least Repede... But she's more of a cat person, quickly getting into character when placed in a catgirl outfit.
* Rita's cooking is plain, but not particularly unpleasant. She tends to think practically about food, not having particular preferences. "It's all the same mush in the stomach, anyways." That said, she's a fair bit of a snack fiend and admitted (before denying her admittance) to losing sleep over gels (which draws immense snark from half the party - Raven in particular). If pushed to cook enough, she might threaten to pull out "It"... (Which goes unspecified.)
* Rita is flat-chested, but does not seem to mind - she thinks large breasts would just get in the way. (Just don't call her names related to it - that will piss her off.)
* Rita doesn't like victory poses.
* Rita isn't much of one for prizes and honors, and doesn't consider published research papers a strong measure of her worth as a scientist.
* In the US, Rita shares a voice actor with Disgaea's Etna, Bleach's Rukia Kuchiki... Well, a lot of people. Needless to say, jokes based off this could ensue.
