The first thing he was aware of was that he was laying on something cold and hard like rock. The next thing was the pain. His stomach throbbed where he’d been punched and his throat burned and ached where ‘Locke’ had hit him to shut him up and the vague memory of being hit in the face would explain his fuzzy thoughts.
Richard rolled to his hands and knees, coughing as his body tried to get air that had been knocked out of him which only caused his throat to burn more. He’d give just about anything for some water.
And that was when he became aware of the third thing that wasn’t right. He was wet; more like soaked. Richard looked up, finally taking in his surroundings, all the while forcing himself to go back to breathing normally. He was under the ocean, that much was certain. But how? Had the Man in Black thrown him in the water after he’d knocked him out? ….with rocks on his feet? There didn’t seem to be any other explanation as to why he’d be at the bottom of the ocean. Of course, that didn’t explain the dome or the city it protected.
Well…there was one, and considering what he had just learned before the Man in Black came out of the statue, he wouldn’t put it past the monster. Richard must be dead. The monster must have killed him like he had killed Jacob; deal with all the loose ends of whatever he had been planning.
Not that this place looked like Heaven or even Hell, but until he had confirmation of a better option, it was the only thing his still-clearing mind could come up with.
