[ History ] :
Future Trunks @ DBZ Wiki

[ Personality ] :
Overall, Trunks is a rather polite and serious young man--more so than one would expect from his age and indeed far more so than his counterpart from the normal timeline. Trunks grew up in a world of desperation and fear, and it shows--he's always looking over his shoulder, always cautious, always guarded, always trying to find a way to become stronger. He has a deep-seated need to protect those who cannot protect themselves, especially children. By his nature, he's kind and would prefer peace to constant fighting, but knows that his power obligates him to defend others. He's intelligent as well, though he can be hotheaded and impulsive, and even cocky when he thinks he has the advantage. Above all, he is loyal and a determined fighter, unwilling to give up and admit defeat even when he has been sorely beaten. He inherited more than a little of his father's pride and honor, even if he usually doesn't let it control him.

Growing up as he did had a lot to do with the way he's turned out as a young man. Aside from his nature, Trunks is also prone to reflection and can sometimes be caught in a flashback, when triggered. He acts desperately around the androids, and these moments are probably his most impulsive: such as firing ki blasts at close range without warning, jumping into a fight that everyone else had agreed to make one-on-one, threatening a damaged Android 16--who had offered to help fight Cell, etc. In contrast, when he faced Frieza, a tyrant responsible for the death of billions of people, he was calm, even cocky...because he knew he was stronger. The fact that he's from the future gives him some knowledge of the way things should play out, and he tends to panic when things go 'wrong'. He doesn't like being surprised--and he definitely doesn't like being snuck up on, though good luck managing that.

Due to his childhood and his training, Trunks is a combat pragmatist who always--or almost always--gives everything he's got in a fight. The only time that was an exception was when he delayed powering up to fight Perfect Cell to spare Vegeta's pride, a perfect example of his respect for his father and desire for Vegeta's acceptance and pride. Unlike the other Earth fighters, Trunks usually is mostly silent while fighting. He doesn't ever call his attacks like the others do, for instance, and he's not really above fighting dirty either.

Unfortunately for him, being self-taught in a lot of his development as a fighter--even his time training in the Room of Spirit and Time with Vegeta was largely spent by himself--Trunks is prone to making mistakes. When he powered up to Ultra Super Saiyan in his fight against Perfect Cell, he didn't have the experience to realize that the massive increase in power also came with a decrease of speed and mobility, as well as the form's immense drain on his energy to maintain, and he got soundly trounced. When Cell pointed out his mistake, Trunks lost all hope of winning and gave up the fight--but he still had enough fire in him to sass at Cell.

One of the reasons Trunks is more restrained and polite than his main timeline self is the lack of his father, Vegeta, in his childhood. Instead, his main influences were his mother Bulma and, perhaps more importantly, Gohan. Trunks is incredibly close to his mother, and he was close to Gohan while the older half-Saiyan was alive. Having their influence was a good part of what makes Trunks so reserved and polite. However, when given the chance to meet his father, Trunks wanted desperately to prove his worth to Vegeta and gain his acceptance. Thus, he kinda followed Vegeta around like a lost puppy and refused to do anything that might hurt his father's pride. When he found out about Vegeta's reaction to his temporary death (which occurs after the canon point he's pulled from,) he was actually happy about it.

Lastly, to balance out the OPness of his abilities, there's a major aspect of his personality--Trunks doesn't really like to fight like a full-blooded Saiyan does, certainly he would never think of doing anything to harm anyone who didn't do something to damn well deserve it--unless he had absolutely no other choice. He fights because his power and the circumstances of his world obligates him to, not because he enjoys it, and certainly not because he's driven to do so.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
strengths ;
- absurdly strong, ridiculously fast, capable of punching mountains into gravel, etc.
- energy control gives him the ability to fly, enhance his strength further, and shoot things with laser beams. He can also suppress his own energy level and sense that of others.
- SWORD FIGHTIN'!
- what doesn't kill him quite literally makes him stronger
- can take a shitton of damage like a boss, he's generally more resilient than a normal human--illness and injury have to be serious to take him down, and he generally recovers faster.
- determined
- loyal
- smart, especially where mathematics and engineering are concerned, if he ever gets the chance to show it off

weaknesses ;
- lack of experience. This is the big one--it especially tends to mess with him when fighting stronger opponents. He makes stupid mistakes and it ends up with him getting his ass kicked.
- pride. This can combine with the above weakness to give a one-two punch of fucking up that will end with his ass getting kicked 'round the schoolyard.
- impulsive. At least sometimes, he'll fly epically off the handle and run screaming headlong into danger--this is generally where his family and friends are concerned. (See: the dozens of times in the series/movies where he tries to run to Vegeta's defense.) Or if the androids are involved.
- vulnerability to magic. He's never really encountered or defended against it.
- prone to introspection and fits of melancholy. I don't even know how else to describe it except for somewhat mild PTSD--he can be triggered into flashbacks, generally of things and people exploding or his mentor Gohan's death. These don't generally impair him from functioning, but it will quite obviously distract him.
- idk if this is a weakness so much as inconvenience, but Trunks' metabolism is far and away higher than a normal person, so he generally eats a lot of food when he can. Not nearly as much as a full-blooded Saiyan, but he can pack food away if it's there for him to.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
Trunks has no tail (Toriyama forgot about it, lol. I just say that Bulma cut it off when he was a kid, therefore he has a scar on his lower back where it would've been) and therefore can't be immobilized by grabbing it, and he won't transform into a rampaging monkeybeast under the full moon.

However, he is capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan, which is probably the better end of that deal in the first place.

[ Sample ] :
[Wet? Yes. Annoyed? Most definitely. Quietly panicking because where is he and he had been flying after Father intent on yelling at him or...something...yup, that too.

Trunks has really had enough of surprises for one day. Nothing is going the way it should be going. It was history, how much could it change? First the delay of Goku's illness, then the new androids, and now...this. Whatever 'this' was.

Where ever this was.

Trunks could have dried himself off with a burst of ki, but he decided not to draw attention to himself, thinking it best to lay low and hide his power level. Even if it meant dripping water everywhere. It would be easier to look around from the air, but also risky. He wasn't going to take any chances. Just be friendly, largely unthreatening (the broadsword at his back would throw that impression off quite a lot), and ask someone what was going on. Speaking of, there was someone now.]

Excuse me...could you tell me what's going on here? Where is this?

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] :
...Vegeta is going to drive him insane. 8D
