( Character's Name ) : Tetsuya Kuroko ( Character's Age ) : 16 ( Series ) :Kuroko no Basket ( Canon Point ) : Chapter 203
( History ) : It's hard for me to write a summary from over 200 chapters, so please go here instead : The Sixth Man
( Personality ) : Kuroko is well known being the "sixth man" of Teikou's Generation of Miracles, which is said to be strongest Basketball team at the period. He is overall a polite guy—always talks in a formal and gentle tone. He once said that he cannot yell, so he had to use megaphone when he took Seirin's Basketball club test, which required them to shout out their goal in front of Seirin's school mass.
Kuroko firmly declared that he joined Seirin's Basketball club to achieve his goal to beat every Generation of Miracles—the team he used to play with. He also promised that he would make Kagami Taiga—a fellow new member of Seirin Basketball club who came from America--to be the strongest in Japan. Thus, he pledged to Kagami that he would take a role as his shadow.
Of course, he is not a bland character that without a reason suddenly pops out of nowhere and boasts that he will be someone's shadow, then make that someone the strongest in Japan in order to beat the strongest known as Generation of Miracles. He has a worthy reason to do that inside his inner thought, that is to fix what he feels wrong with their Basketball way.
A high percentage of people that Kuroko encounters would react surprised, as he lacks of presence ... up until he finally says a word, and voila! A running gag in his character is where people ask how long he has been there and Kuroko would answer to that "I've been here all this time". This lack of presence then granted him a skill called 'Misditection'. And this "Misdirection" skill gives him the ability to stand on the same position with the Generation of Miracles.
Kuroko's small, fragile, weakling alike appearance would make people doubt whether he is someone to depend on. In a way they might be right, as he is not athletic, nor does he have a well-built body. Aside from the basic techniques in basketball which he often fails at, he doesn't have any impressive techniques, unlike others who are considered talented. However, Kuroko is not stupid; in any battle situation, (In this case it's often at Basketball) he won't panic when the situation puts him in pinch. Instead, with his calm demeanor, he would come up with a strong strategy and tactical plan over instead of relying on raw power in order to provide a counter attack. Since he is a cool headed and observant, he always manages to read the other person's tendency. Thus, he could come up with the right plan that usually work, especially for his team. That doesn't mean his plans are infallible. There are also times when his plans being broken easily, even if Kuroko pushes his entire might and potential to build it.
Kuroko started his Basketball club activity on junior high. He was driven into it because he wanted to compete with his best friend at a league, and they made promise that they will, someday. He was pretty ambitious for this that he tried hard to be in the prime team as a regular player on the hardest and most tight competition in Teikou's Basketball club. Kuroko is not the type that will easily give up, though. He is a hard worker. And, that is shown earlier, even in his first time in the club. He stayed longer than the other members to get extra practice time. He is individualistic, as it is rare to find him asking another person for help, unless it's for teamwork strategy. Perhaps it is because he is a really calm and quiet person that he is not easily attached to others. That concludes Kuroko as an independent individual. This also applies to how he looked totally composed and fine even after he almost got rejected from Teikou, but when he was left alone, he was broken in tears of despair.
Kuroko is known most for being: cool, quiet, tranquil, rarely express himself, contented, independent, and monotone when speaking. Even through his Junior high until he reached senior high, he remained that way. This implies Kuroko is the hardest person to get close to or even to befriend to. He is not an antisocial, though. He is able to adapt with people, but he has to filter who are the ones allowed to enter his circle. This is proven by how he got along well with the Generation of Miracles. He even already got attached to few among their members. Daiki Aomine is the prime example, as he influenced Kuroko a lot. Kuroko also showed his emotion utmost when he had to face Aomine, mainly because his ambitious side to beat every of Generation of Miracle, which he felt had no righteousness in their basketball. The truth is, the crucial part that he wants to fix at the most is Aomine's attitude change toward Basketball. To Kuroko, Aomine isn't the same as he used to be when they are best mates, as he was always smiling every time he plays Basketball, but he never does it again. This emotion driven him strongly that even the Seirin team realized, Kuroko was less composed upon facing Aomine's team.
In his daily life with Seirin, Kuroko often act as a meddling when everyone else is in their hot temper. Or, more likely being the only sane man at the similar situation. As Kuroko is an observant and critical thinker, he leans toward rational thought over emotion. Thus, he always manages to calm down anyone when they're about to break hell loose. This talent of him got recognized by Seirin's coach, Riko. She has been using Kuroko often since, on purpose to calm down the team (especially Kagami) whenever they're in tension, or when they're in breakdown. Though, even Kuroko himself has his limit. There were some occasions where he was the one who fell into a breakdown, and Kagami was the one who brought him back. Much reversed from their usual played role.
Kuroko also able to show his furious side; this shown when he found out the dirty tricks from one of their opponent team, Kirisaki Daiichi. They--especially Makoto Hanamiya, always cheat on their game and Kuroko wasn't able to accept that, as he loves Basketball from his heart and he always believes that the true happiness of achievement come after you've won something from the effort and hard work you gave at the thing you love from the bottom of your heart. This is also what made him fought at his total potential upon Murasakibara, one of Generation of Miracles who believed that even if you love something and put a lot of effort at it, if you're not talented and always remain being a loser, there is no meaning at it. They obviously would clash when they bring out their ideals together.
Being rational, cool, and contented doesn't mean Kuroko would always be tense and all serious. Sometimes he could pick up some joke or even troll just like when he forced Kagami to pat a puppy found by Seirin's team members albeit Kagami has phobia to dogs. His lack of presence and reaction by people who finally notice him is obviously the remarkable running gag and laughable situational comedy, along with his sarcastic comment, which is often thrown at the right timing so it could tickle. Overall, he is a professional deadpan snarkier.
( Strengths/Weaknesses ) :
Being a regular in a strong team two times, Kuroko is considered lacking even in basic techniques of basketball, and is physically weak. His lack of presence is both a weakness and strength, because based on his already lacking presence mixed with his sharp observing instinct, he could avert opponent's attention from him, making him easily steal the ball. This ability called as “Misdirection”, trademark move owned by Kuroko. Therefore with this, his passes are invincible and tricky. They could easily deceive his opponent. With that alone he could boost one team to take the advantage. Although it seems very useful, there is limit to his misdirection skill. He could only become 'invisible' for maximum 40 minutes long. And to certain players that are as good as him in paying attention to opponent's behavior and habit, his Misdirection won't work at all.
That being said, aside from Basketball topic, his critical analysis upon observing toward objects, reading through people’s behavior psychology and his cool head to progress those into a worthy useful plan could be considered his special talent, since it’s pretty useful, either that for inside or even outside Basketball. That, along with his mental strength and firm grip to his ambition. These abilities made him a formidable opponent that won't be easily taken down and could always gives twist to his problem with new innovation of tricks.
( Other Important Facts ) :
-Kuroko likes cute animals. -Also, milkshakes. -He has alternate job to pick aside being a Basketball player, That is to be a kindergarten teacher.
( Sample ) : [Although his face remains with the same flat expression, inside, Kuroko starts to feel concerned about this. He has already sent a text to his internet provider, even convinced them that he needs his internet to be fixed immediately. Not necessarily, just that he has to check some Basketball websites. Even for Kuroko, tolerating the delays in work is kind of hard. Sure, he is quite patience. But this begins to surpass his limit.]
[Lucky for him, his cellphone suddenly rings. And, it is an incoming call from his internet provider, probably calling for confirmation. Kuroko immediately presses the green button to answer the call.]
Yes, Kuroko here. Right, I requested the connection check.
[One could overhear mumbles the caller has when they speak to him. It is unclear what their answer could be, but Kuroko frowned at it.]
Oh is that so..? please tell me more. I don't really get about this extended subscription package thing.
[The speaker answers him. This time it seems longer than before, as if they are trying to explain thoroughly about their new service system. One can see Kuroko nods his head multiple times with a short "Oh" and "OK". ]
Ah..? No sir. I don't need the special access to Enka Channel .
[Another mumbles heard.]
No, I don't really need the Elite member account as well, thanks.
[And mumbles, yet again.]
Yeah, that one please. Sure. I'll be waiting and re-check my connection at 8 PM then.
[Kuroko replies politely, then he quit the call. The main screen of his cellphone appears, and it shows him the time. It's 4 o'clock. That means he still has to wait for four hours long. Kuroko looks around, trying to find something fun to do while he is waiting.]
