RPG event - Quest NPC Contact

◣ Quest NPC Contact ◢

Below is a place to thread out quick little conversations with the NPCs that aren't worth an entire log. Vatheon's staple NPCs will have postings here, and all the other new quest NPCs will simply be listed under the "Quest NPCs" comment header. Please put in the subject line which quest you're talking with an NPC about!

[That's, uh... unique. But if the guy really needs help...]

[Excellent! He takes a pair and pops them right in. With a wave to the librarian, up he goes to talk to the harpies! Just gonna go climb the walls now.

When he finally gets up there he doesn't take the sword from his back or look menacing in the slightest.]

Umm, excuse me, miss harpies?

[They can't hear him over the sound of their own squawking so he tries again.]

Excuse me!

[Not a one even bats and eyelash. Sola takes a deep breath, and...]

EXCUSE ME!!!

[Whoops, the sudden holler puts the harpies on the immediate defensive! The noise downstairs gets worse as the creatures shriek and flap their wings, scraping claws on roof tiles while Sola tries desperately to keep his footing and draw his weapons at the same time. Getting mauled by crazy bird ladies is not on his list of things to do today!

His feet pound across the roof, showering dust from the ceiling into the reference section as he tries to find a more defensible position between chimneys, dodging and slashing his way through the horde. The thumps of the scuffle increase exponentially for several minutes, even dislodging a ceiling tile or two below, before the noise suddenly tapers off, including the previously running footsteps.

Five minutes later Sola limps back into the library, chugging a health potion. His face is scratched and his armor dented in places, but mostly he's intact. Thank goodness he'd mowed down the weeds this morning and gotten an extra potion or he'd have been a goner.]

Sorry about the noise but they shouldn't bother you anymore.

[No, people are people! Plants are spin attack practice >.> Not that he's tried it. Maybe he should...

Here's your roots for today, ma'am!]

[Fanfare! Sola has learned the Adrenaline skill!]

I feel stronger already! I can use this to protect my friends.

Is that what you're fighting about? I don't see anything.

[Sola looks a bit sympathetic; he's stepped on things barefoot before and it does hurt, but...]

You should be glad that you're brother is still here. Mine's gone. I'm kind of jealous, even if he does leave legos out.
replicatedcourage: (Guess what!)

Awesome!

[He's just gonna hold this up over his head to examine in the light, don't mind him.]

[When Hubert gets a moment away from his companions he decides to get a leg up on one of the solo quests, searching out the woman in white described on the cleric quest.

He approaches, tucking his odd magic-pistol set away and pushing his glasses up as he gives a polite half-bow.]

Good afternoon. Are you the woman I need to speak to regarding the cleric skill?

[ Sadly, ms warrior trainer, Rand's hand was burnt off. ]

Cornered in a battle...

[ This is hard. When was the last time he was cornered...

And when was the last time he didn't use magic to get out of it.
]

I assume you don't want to hear about me having to relearn how to fight with this hand, although it was tough.

[ Sort of waggling his right hand's fingers at her. Battle and cornered. ]

At Falme, between two armies - one of a very religious order known as Children of the Light, the other of the Seanchan, who just looked like very strange invaders - I ended up in a fight against who I thought then was The Dark One himself. I was tired - I had won against a Seanchan blademaster not too long ago, and blademasters aren't called them for no reason - my hands hurt from an accidental branding - which was months ago, then, but they still hurt now - and.. I couldn't win. He wasn't really able to do much but keep me moving, either, but I was tired and he, well, he was full of Power.

[ Ah. Ba'alzamon. Not Shai'tan, but then? Close enough.. ]

I only won because I let him smash me in the ribs with his staff, and I got my sword through him. The wound hasn't healed, and that was near two years ago.

That.. That was hard. I was certain, that if I failed, the world would be... well, "destroyed". Could you imagine what the world would be like, say, if no one had a conscience? Or perhaps if it was extreme distopia - a slight mistake would have you gathering wood from a place where the very trees, if you touch them wrong, would kill you. Or perhaps the world would just be a charred and blackened ruin - humans kept to be contents of stewpots for creatures half-beast. My only chance was to let him strike me, and I was told that prophesies said I was the only one to stop Him. If I lost? All that, or somehow, something worse.

[ Only now he knew what the Dark One could do, as it had showed him what it wanted to. ]

[So far during this curse, Shiro had figured out one very crucial thing:

Walking everywhere really did suck.

Okay, no, that wasn't really it. He was a little miffed that his King powers had been taken away yet again, and he missed being able to thoughtlessly and easily float everywhere he needed to go, but what he had actually learned was that he was not the fastest spell caster around. Everything was so much easier when the power simply acted and there was no fuss or whatever else involved with it.

A glance at the quest board told him that there may have been a way to go about fixing that, so he gladly trotted to the library when he had a moment and went in search of the small man.

Oh.

That description wasn't kidding, was it?

Shiro blinked a few times before finally finding his voice, speaking in a hushed tone.]

Sorry to bother you sir, but are you the one I need to ask about the mage skill?

Well this one is the best and greatest hero story ever!

[He turns the lights down and sits, starting to tell his tale. despite his sometimes childlike demeanor, for this story Sola has a somewhat more commanding presence. It's an important story and how he tells it makes it obvious that it's important.]

Once upon a time, the world was created by the three Goddesses. Din, the goddess of power, made the land. Nayru, the goddess of wisdom, made the rules of how the world would work. And Farore, the goddess of courage, made all the different peoples. When the left the world, they left behind three sacred golden triangles called the Triforce that can grant any wish.

In this world they created were two kingdoms. One, Hyrule, was green and prosperous and the other, the Gerudo Desert, was harsh and poor. The king of the Gerudo was jealous of everything the king of Hyrule had so he hatched a plot to kill him! He would take the sacred triangles and rule Hyrule for himself!

[He pauses for effect, then continues before the boy can interrupt entirely.]

Luckily, the princess lived and she found a hero, a boy from the forest with a fairy guide. She gave him a magical ocarina and told him he was Hyrule's only hope! But the boy wasn't strong enough yet to defeat the King of Evil, so he slept for seven years in a secret chamber. When he awoke, he was big enough to go and awaken the seven sages so he could be strong enough to defeat the king!

Now the hero went through many temples and dungeons, fighting all kinds of monsters great and small. He took his legendary Master Sword and his trusty shield and he cut through all the enemies like swish!

[He slices his hand up to down as if he's holding a sword.]

And swoosh!

[This time left to right.]

And hiya!

[He pokes the listening boy right in the stomach, gently, hopefully prompting a giggle.]

But even as he went on, the temples got harder and harder. The hero needed help! In the deepest reaches of the Water temple, though, he found that the King of Evil had made a copy of the hero in the hopes that he wouldn't be able to defeat himself. Only the replica didn't want to fight, he wanted to help the hero instead! The two heroes shook hands and decided to be brothers and help each other to save Hyrule and the princess!

The hero bothers went on to conquer all the rest of the temples with ease because everything is easier when you have a partner! Finally, they made their way to the King of Evil's giant tower castle where he'd finally found the princess and was keeping her captive! Together, they waged an epic battle against the King and finally defeated him! Yay! Only with his dying breath, the evil king set the tower to fall! The two heroes and the princess raced down the tower, shielding her and each other from the falling rocks and torches! When they finally escaped, the tower fell to rubble behind them and they knew the worst was over. The three turned to walk away and rebuild their country.

Only it wasn't over, because the Great King of Evil had one last trick up his sleeve! He turned into a monstrous beast and scattered the two heroes, the Master Sword and the hero's copy falling to one side and the hero shielding the princess with his body.

The copy hero knew what he had to do as he watched the beast king rise up to land the last blow on the princess and the hero, so he took up his brother's sword and he plunged it right into the evil king's tail. The beat king howled in pain and anger and turned around to kill the hero's copy, but as he turned the copy took out the sword and plunged it again into the monster, this time right through his heart, even as the great king's claws ripped him up. The evil king fell, but so did the copy hero with him.

The princess and the hero ran to the side of the hero's brother, thanking him and pleading with him not to die. The princess healed the copy hero and told him he wasn't a copy anymore, that he was a hero all on his own, and the hero's brother smiled, and got up, and all three of them returned to rebuild their kingdom of Hyrule together.

The end.

[Sola smiles at the boy, seeming both pleased with himself and maybe a little wistful.]

Was it a good story?

[This is the second day in a row that Sola's walked by and noticed the storefront in a shambles. Without any hesitation, Sola gets right to picking up all the trash. He even goes so far as to bundle it all up and take it to the dumpster behind the store so this can't happen again! At least, not today.]

Uh... well the original hero did. The hero's brother liked someone else.

[He didn't really think about that when telling the story, now he looks a little embarrassed.]

[Oh! If the kid thinks that, he'll sleep and the mom can sleep longer too!]

Maybe! I think you should try it. What do you think?
