RPG event - Quest NPC Contact

◣ Quest NPC Contact ◢

Below is a place to thread out quick little conversations with the NPCs that aren't worth an entire log. Vatheon's staple NPCs will have postings here, and all the other new quest NPCs will simply be listed under the "Quest NPCs" comment header. Please put in the subject line which quest you're talking with an NPC about!

Don't worry ma'am, we'll have fun and you can rest.

[He pats her shoulder, smiling, then heads into the boy's room and closes the door behind him. To get the kid's attention he plays a quick, trilling scale on his ocarina.]

Hey, wanna hear a cool story? It's got monsters in it and a hero who saves a princess!

Well this one is the best and greatest hero story ever!

[He turns the lights down and sits, starting to tell his tale. despite his sometimes childlike demeanor, for this story Sola has a somewhat more commanding presence. It's an important story and how he tells it makes it obvious that it's important.]

Once upon a time, the world was created by the three Goddesses. Din, the goddess of power, made the land. Nayru, the goddess of wisdom, made the rules of how the world would work. And Farore, the goddess of courage, made all the different peoples. When the left the world, they left behind three sacred golden triangles called the Triforce that can grant any wish.

In this world they created were two kingdoms. One, Hyrule, was green and prosperous and the other, the Gerudo Desert, was harsh and poor. The king of the Gerudo was jealous of everything the king of Hyrule had so he hatched a plot to kill him! He would take the sacred triangles and rule Hyrule for himself!

[He pauses for effect, then continues before the boy can interrupt entirely.]

Luckily, the princess lived and she found a hero, a boy from the forest with a fairy guide. She gave him a magical ocarina and told him he was Hyrule's only hope! But the boy wasn't strong enough yet to defeat the King of Evil, so he slept for seven years in a secret chamber. When he awoke, he was big enough to go and awaken the seven sages so he could be strong enough to defeat the king!

Now the hero went through many temples and dungeons, fighting all kinds of monsters great and small. He took his legendary Master Sword and his trusty shield and he cut through all the enemies like swish!

[He slices his hand up to down as if he's holding a sword.]

And swoosh!

[This time left to right.]

And hiya!

[He pokes the listening boy right in the stomach, gently, hopefully prompting a giggle.]

But even as he went on, the temples got harder and harder. The hero needed help! In the deepest reaches of the Water temple, though, he found that the King of Evil had made a copy of the hero in the hopes that he wouldn't be able to defeat himself. Only the replica didn't want to fight, he wanted to help the hero instead! The two heroes shook hands and decided to be brothers and help each other to save Hyrule and the princess!

The hero bothers went on to conquer all the rest of the temples with ease because everything is easier when you have a partner! Finally, they made their way to the King of Evil's giant tower castle where he'd finally found the princess and was keeping her captive! Together, they waged an epic battle against the King and finally defeated him! Yay! Only with his dying breath, the evil king set the tower to fall! The two heroes and the princess raced down the tower, shielding her and each other from the falling rocks and torches! When they finally escaped, the tower fell to rubble behind them and they knew the worst was over. The three turned to walk away and rebuild their country.

Only it wasn't over, because the Great King of Evil had one last trick up his sleeve! He turned into a monstrous beast and scattered the two heroes, the Master Sword and the hero's copy falling to one side and the hero shielding the princess with his body.

The copy hero knew what he had to do as he watched the beast king rise up to land the last blow on the princess and the hero, so he took up his brother's sword and he plunged it right into the evil king's tail. The beat king howled in pain and anger and turned around to kill the hero's copy, but as he turned the copy took out the sword and plunged it again into the monster, this time right through his heart, even as the great king's claws ripped him up. The evil king fell, but so did the copy hero with him.

The princess and the hero ran to the side of the hero's brother, thanking him and pleading with him not to die. The princess healed the copy hero and told him he wasn't a copy anymore, that he was a hero all on his own, and the hero's brother smiled, and got up, and all three of them returned to rebuild their kingdom of Hyrule together.

The end.

[Sola smiles at the boy, seeming both pleased with himself and maybe a little wistful.]

Was it a good story?

Uh... well the original hero did. The hero's brother liked someone else.

[He didn't really think about that when telling the story, now he looks a little embarrassed.]

[Oh! If the kid thinks that, he'll sleep and the mom can sleep longer too!]

Maybe! I think you should try it. What do you think?

[He'll just help that along by playing Zelda's Lullaby on the Ocarina of Time. It may not be magical right now thanks to the curse, but it's a soothing song all the same.]

[With a small smile, Sola tiptoes out of the boy's room and closes the door softly behind him. Hopefully both the boy and his mother can get some rest now.]
