Jake English is the post-Scratch version of Grandpa Harley and is Jade Harley's post-Scratch counterpart. Unlike Jade who dreamed of Prospit daily and had social interaction that way, Jake grew up alone to fend for himself and sort of raise himself. This could be one key reason why he's such a strange acting individual. However, Jake has his friends he can talk to through Pesterchum, and is pen pals with Jade Harley who is his genetic grand daughter in the pre-Scratch universe. Jake is skeptical about his pen pal, but is unaware of his relation to her. Besides that, Jake has no interaction with anybody else for the majority of his life. The two communicate across two Earth universes with one another as pen pals, and Jake is responsible for working on John's present that was successfully delivered to him on his 13th birthday. Act 6 opens with an introduction to Jane before switching to Jake and talking about his character. We know he's on an island which looks similar to the one Jade was born on, and it turns out to be the same one but with large differences between the two universes. A few more pages into the comic and it reveals that the island Jake lives on is inhabited by monster like creatures that are similar and favoring that of the troll's lusii (the guardians of the trolls that raise them). We also see a lot of similarities between Jake and John, such as appearance and an interest in movies (and an allergy to peanuts). Jake and Jane have a talk, and it reveals that Jake's dream self is dead through a conversation he has with Jane. The Condesce had him put the death by feeding him peanuts which killed him.
Jake, though, continues to work on John's present because he feels his arm is being twisted to finish it. It's Calliope who is pressuring or "twisting his arm" to finish the present in time. He's nearly done, but then Jake realizes he needs extra uranium to finish John's present, and after having a conversation with his best friend's auto-responder, Jake finds the only way of getting any is to battle Brobot, a robot designed for Jake on his 13th birthday by none other than his best friend himself, Dirk Strider. The robot's purpose was to have somebody for Jake to wrestle with and otherwise make him stronger, and the uranium inside of him is exactly what he needs to complete the gift for John. And so, Jake seeks out the robot so he can finish what he was doing. A better look at the island: he seems to have a lot of pumpkins on his island, and this is where we see the lusii like creatures that inhabit it. Jake appears to be skittish of his surroundings and actually kills a creature like Tinkerbull, later feeling remorse for it. Any of the other lusii seem to terrify him further away from his room, where he eventually finds Brobot. Through an epic battle, Jake and Brobot battle it out, and Jake gets his ass kicked. He then passes out and catches a glimpse of the "girl of his dreams" which happens to be Aranea, a dead Scorpio troll. Jake awakes and has a conversation with Jane since he cannot get a hold of Dirk, and questions if she has feelings for him or not to sort of settle his thoughts. He seems rather eager and hasty to know who likes him and why. This is probably caused because he wants to figure out who to actually pursue: his friends or this new troll he met, who Dirk tells Jake she's just a fragment of his imagination. As Jake and Jane talk, Jane cannot muster enough strength to confess to him and says she doesn't have feelings for him, and Jake seems alright with that. He's now more curious about how Dirk feels about him, but cannot seem to get a hold of actual Dirk. He's instead getting Dirk's auto-responder once again.
After he finishes the present for John, he has to travel deep within the ruins of his island to get to the transporter to deliver it. Apparently an earthquake of some kind caused from volcanic activity on the island happens and it knocks Jake out unconscious, and if it weren't for his skulltop helmet he probably wouldn't have made it. It's here he fails to awake and has a dream about a conversation he had with Dirk back when he was 13 which reveals more about his past and goes something like this: Jake seems rather eager about the release of Avatar which is apt to come out "next year" and Dirk sort of pokes fun at him for it before sending him the rest of his birthday present.. which happens to be Brobot. Dirk then admits he had a confession to make to Jake, and while Jake seems to be taking this as a different sort of confession, Dirk spills the beans that he's actually from the future: the year 2422, or 411 Post-Condescension. Dirk says he's alone in his apartment and can only send things to the past, and he also says that Roxy is from the future too.
Dirk goes on to describe his world and how the Condesce has changed it, and it gets Jake all riled up to where he wants to stop her somehow. Somewhere in this conversation, Dirk asks Jake what he knows about his grandmother. Jake says he's unsure about everything with his grandmother and his memory of her is foggy, but that she loved adventure and had a company that made a good amount of money before it went "belly-up". She had even built a nice fancy house for them to live in. The last thing Jake remembers of his grandmother was the night that she died. How she died isn't exactly explained, but Jake believes a monster that was on the island got to her. When she went missing for a few days, Jake decided to go out and look for her and when he found her she was dead. It was at that moment he heard an explosion and turned around to see that the house she had built for him had exploded on the hill where it was. He then says he grew up in the jungle ever since until he found his room globe mostly intact in the jungle and that's where he resided the rest of his life. Dirk goes on about his present and how the Condesce took over, flooded the earth and was cruel to the human race and tried to enforce blood casting to mankind by altering their blood color.
It's basically a post-apocalyptic mess in Dirk's timeline.
He also mentions that Jake's grandmother was raised by the Baroness of the Crocker Corp (The Condesce, essentially), who was married to Lord English himself. Jake is also named after Lord English and is actually fascinated with him in a way (having attire and belongings that relate to Lord English which was more than likely passed down to him by his grandmother to insult Lord English), but besides the point, his grandmother ran away when she was really young. She lived a life to really piss off the Condesce before she passed away and Jake had to survive on his own.
Eventually, as the game plays out, Jake is able to get enough uranium to send John's present and successfully enter the game after a complicated synchronization ploy is a success, courtesy of Dirk Strider. We're taking Jake from his period where he is fighting on Dirk's planet after entering the game.
That is about the important parts of history behind Jake.
