◣ Application ◢
Please note that as of July 28th, Vatheon will start working towards end game.
August 31st is the last day for applying. We will no longer open applications after that. Thank you for your consideration.
» Please make sure that you read the rules, and check the reserves before applying. People who do not read the rules will be rejected immediately.
» You are allowed to apply for two characters per application cycle. You may also reserve two characters. We will try to review each application as soon as possible. If longer than a week has passed and you have not heard back anything about your application, please drop us a message.
» Don't lie in your application. Don't copy / paste things from wiki. Keep what you post in your application strictly you. Sure, it's hard to add your own flair to writing history or a personality, but try to keep from summarizing too much. Show us your shine! Plagiarizing another player's application is ground for an immediate rejection.
» If someone has a reserve for a character, and you want to apply for them, you have the choice of either A) challenging the application with one of your own or B) waiting until the reserve expires and then applying/reserving as the character. If you challenge the original reserver, your application will not be reviewed until the original reserver has submitted theirs.
» Currently, the character limit is five characters. Any more is up to the mods, and must be discussed ahead of time with them. You may only apply for two characters from the same canon.
» Keep spamming to a minimum on the applications. Wait until that person is accepted into the game before holding out a conversation on a thread. Comment spamming here makes things cluttered, and a mod may accidentally miss something important. ( But feel free to comment-spam the Reserve page, if you'd like. )
» Please don't skip over any section of the application below.
» Please finish your application before posting. We reserve the right to decline any applications that are still unfinished when we process them.
» When reviewing applications, we take opinions of our members into consideration. If you would like to make a comment about an app that is being decided upon, do not hesitate. Here is where you can leave a comment with what you thought of another app. All comments will be screened for privacy, and the option to be anon will be left on. Do note, player opinions do not decide if an application is accepted or not, but will be taken into consideration.☆ Player - - -
( Player Name ) : A nickname will work. Whatever you would like to be listed as.
( Personal DW ) : Not your character's journal. Your own, just in case one of the mods ever needs to contact you that way.
( Age ) : No players under the age of 15, please!
( Timezone ) : Just for reference sake!
( Other Characters ) : At Vatheon, that is. Please list in the following format.
Character ( Character's Journal ) | Series☆ Character - - -
( Character's Name ) :
( Character's Age ) : There is no set age limit for the characters, and in fact, this is very flexible. So long as your character is mature enough to take care of him or herself and is mature enough for the game, they can be apped! As a basic guideline, think the maturity of someone around the age of 13 or so.
( Series ) :
( Canon Point ) : What part of the story of the series is your character coming in after? Did he or she just die? Did something traumatic just happen? Is it near the end, the beginning, or the middle? Tell us!
( Playability ) : If you are apping your second person for a particular canon, please give us a quick reasoning on why the characters would not be extensively interacting/how you are planning to avoid any playercest issues. If you are not apping from a canon you already play in, please disregard this section.
( History ) : You may provide us with a link to a wiki-page, or something else that will sufficiently give the Community and the mods background on your canon. If you wish to write out the history yourself, you still may do such.
( Personality ) : Probably the most important part of the application! Tell us what your character is like. We're looking for a well-developed analysis of the character. Perhaps between three to five paragraphs, roughly. Feel free to do more or less, however, if you think that better suits you. Most applications will be closer to the three than the five, and that's completely okay!
Just make sure to hit on crucial aspects of that character. What does he or she like? What does he or she hate? What are his or her motives? What parts of your character's past influenced how they are? Does your character act differently in front of different groups of people? Think of these questions as you write. Feel free to go off the page and focus on other questions. The above questions were just to get you thinking.
( Strengths/Weaknesses ) : So tell us! What can your character do well? What is your character weak against? Any cool spells? Good at picking locks? Anything you can think of, put it here.
( Other Important Facts ) : Have something else important to mention about your character that doesn't really fit in anywhere else? Be sure to include it here!
( Sample ) : This can be in first person or third person. There's no limit to your sample post. Just be sure to include your character's voice. Don't just write your character walking around! Be sure to include thoughts, quirks, and anything else that shows us you know your character. How would he or she react to the mark? How would he or she react to waking up some place new? Is he or she still brooding over something? The sample does not have to be set in Vatheon. You may also link to other roleplay threads; just be sure to give us something that shows how you plan to play them and clearly shows their voice! Or feel free to do a few of the above. Whatever you think will best show your characterization.
Please note! If you are linking samples, please make sure that at least one sample is from within the last three months. You are still free to link other samples that are older in addition, if you feel these would help show your ability to play the character, but at least one sample needs to be recent. Thank you.
If you are unable to think of a good starting point for a sample, we collected some prompts of situations that are pretty likely to happen within Vatheon to start you off. You are very welcome to deviate from these prompts or come up with something completely new. This is just something to hopefully help you get started:☆ A new curse has settled upon the city of Vatheon: Suddenly you character realizes they are unable to lie for the duration of a week. How do they react?
☆ What is this? Is that rain? How nice-- wait a minute, is it raining rubber duckies? Seriously?
☆ Suddenly, by the force of Vatheon, an over zealous npc, or even your character's friends playing a joke, your character suddenly finds themselves wearing clothes they otherwise would never wear. What do?
☆ The city of Vatheon is under attack (again). Giant sea-creatures are wrecking the city (again). Time to prepare for battle.
☆ A new plot development has happened and your character has decided to get some more information from one of the NPCs. How do they proceed?
( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) : Tell us here!

Re: Jake English | Homestuck | Reserved 2/???
Jake English is the post-Scratch version of Grandpa Harley and is Jade Harley's post-Scratch counterpart. Unlike Jade who dreamed of Prospit daily and had social interaction that way, Jake grew up alone to fend for himself and sort of raise himself. This could be one key reason why he's such a strange acting individual. However, Jake has his friends he can talk to through Pesterchum, and is pen pals with Jade Harley who is his genetic grand daughter in the pre-Scratch universe. Jake is skeptical about his pen pal, but is unaware of his relation to her. Besides that, Jake has no interaction with anybody else for the majority of his life.
The two communicate across two Earth universes with one another as pen pals, and Jake is responsible for working on John's present that was successfully delivered to him on his 13th birthday. Act 6 opens with an introduction to Jane before switching to Jake and talking about his character. We know he's on an island which looks similar to the one Jade was born on, and it turns out to be the same one but with large differences between the two universes.
A few more pages into the comic and it reveals that the island Jake lives on is inhabited by monster like creatures that are similar and favoring that of the troll's lusii (the guardians of the trolls that raise them). We also see a lot of similarities between Jake and John, such as appearance and an interest in movies (and an allergy to peanuts). Jake and Jane have a talk, and it reveals that Jake's dream self is dead through a conversation he has with Jane. The Condesce had him put the death by feeding him peanuts which killed him.
Jake, though, continues to work on John's present because he feels his arm is being twisted to finish it. It's Calliope who is pressuring or "twisting his arm" to finish the present in time. He's nearly done, but then Jake realizes he needs extra uranium to finish John's present, and after having a conversation with his best friend's auto-responder, Jake finds the only way of getting any is to battle Brobot, a robot designed for Jake on his 13th birthday by none other than his best friend himself, Dirk Strider. The robot's purpose was to have somebody for Jake to wrestle with and otherwise make him stronger, and the uranium inside of him is exactly what he needs to complete the gift for John. And so, Jake seeks out the robot so he can finish what he was doing. A better look at the island: he seems to have a lot of pumpkins on his island, and this is where we see the lusii like creatures that inhabit it. Jake appears to be skittish of his surroundings and actually kills a creature like Tinkerbull, later feeling remorse for it. Any of the other lusii seem to terrify him further away from his room, where he eventually finds Brobot.
Through an epic battle, Jake and Brobot battle it out, and Jake gets his ass kicked. He then passes out and catches a glimpse of the "girl of his dreams" which happens to be Aranea, a dead Scorpio troll. Jake awakes and has a conversation with Jane since he cannot get a hold of Dirk, and questions if she has feelings for him or not to sort of settle his thoughts. He seems rather eager and hasty to know who likes him and why. This is probably caused because he wants to figure out who to actually pursue: his friends or this new troll he met, who Dirk tells Jake she's just a fragment of his imagination. As Jake and Jane talk, Jane cannot muster enough strength to confess to him and says she doesn't have feelings for him, and Jake seems alright with that. He's now more curious about how Dirk feels about him, but cannot seem to get a hold of actual Dirk. He's instead getting Dirk's auto-responder once again.
After he finishes the present for John, he has to travel deep within the ruins of his island to get to the transporter to deliver it. Apparently an earthquake of some kind caused from volcanic activity on the island happens and it knocks Jake out unconscious, and if it weren't for his skulltop helmet he probably wouldn't have made it. It's here he fails to awake and has a dream about a conversation he had with Dirk back when he was 13 which reveals more about his past and goes something like this:
Jake seems rather eager about the release of Avatar which is apt to come out "next year" and Dirk sort of pokes fun at him for it before sending him the rest of his birthday present.. which happens to be Brobot. Dirk then admits he had a confession to make to Jake, and while Jake seems to be taking this as a different sort of confession, Dirk spills the beans that he's actually from the future: the year 2422, or 411 Post-Condescension. Dirk says he's alone in his apartment and can only send things to the past, and he also says that Roxy is from the future too.
Dirk goes on to describe his world and how the Condesce has changed it, and it gets Jake all riled up to where he wants to stop her somehow. Somewhere in this conversation, Dirk asks Jake what he knows about his grandmother. Jake says he's unsure about everything with his grandmother and his memory of her is foggy, but that she loved adventure and had a company that made a good amount of money before it went "belly-up". She had even built a nice fancy house for them to live in. The last thing Jake remembers of his grandmother was the night that she died. How she died isn't exactly explained, but Jake believes a monster that was on the island got to her. When she went missing for a few days, Jake decided to go out and look for her and when he found her she was dead. It was at that moment he heard an explosion and turned around to see that the house she had built for him had exploded on the hill where it was. He then says he grew up in the jungle ever since until he found his room globe mostly intact in the jungle and that's where he resided the rest of his life. Dirk goes on about his present and how the Condesce took over, flooded the earth and was cruel to the human race and tried to enforce blood casting to mankind by altering their blood color.
It's basically a post-apocalyptic mess in Dirk's timeline.
He also mentions that Jake's grandmother was raised by the Baroness of the Crocker Corp (The Condesce, essentially), who was married to Lord English himself. Jake is also named after Lord English and is actually fascinated with him in a way (having attire and belongings that relate to Lord English which was more than likely passed down to him by his grandmother to insult Lord English), but besides the point, his grandmother ran away when she was really young. She lived a life to really piss off the Condesce before she passed away and Jake had to survive on his own.
Eventually, as the game plays out, Jake is able to get enough uranium to send John's present and successfully enter the game after a complicated synchronization ploy is a success, courtesy of Dirk Strider. We're taking Jake from his period where he is fighting on Dirk's planet after entering the game.
That is about the important parts of history behind Jake.
Re: Jake English | Homestuck | Reserved 3/???
( Personality ) :
A really popular misconception of this character is that he is drop dead suave and a heart throbber; he knows exactly what he is doing to those interested in him and takes pride in it. While it is true, for one reason or another, that there appears to be several characters to show an interest in Jake romantically, he really isn't the smoothest talker. In fact, he's rather clumsy and unaware of things. Jake is rather oblivious to some of the most evident things, having looked over hints Dirk had dropped before concerning him being from the future, or any sort of flirtations by people. In any case, Jake's echeladder has titles such as: One Tomb; Too Many Suitors, Cupid's Crosshair Candy, Sharkbait Heartthrob, Hunk Rumpus Buster and Beau Skylark.
But anyway, it's obvious Jane has sort of a thing for Jake as well, but cowards out on confessing to him and encourages Jake to pursue Dirk instead. Both Jane and Dirk are potential for a relationship, and Jake seems interested on finding out more about how they both feel through several conversations. He describes his relationship with Dirk as "bestest bros" and "wouldn't mind exploring the waters." Because of this, it's fair to say Jake has a wishy-washy sort of personality. He's never certain about one thing or another and just sort of goes with whatever in most cases. While romance is an interest of his, his mind is usually elsewhere. As of yet, Jake seems to have a massive crush on Aranea and is uncomfortable with reciprocating any feelings for Dirk (if Dirk has those sort of feelings for him like he is assuming), but also has a long standing thing for Jane too. This all points to Jake is very cautious with his choice for a girlfriend.. or boyfriend. It really goes hand and hand with his careful personality anyway.
As mentioned, though, his mind is typically elsewhere. Elsewhere being adventuring or nerding out over comic books or movies. It should also be noted here that he aspires to be an archaeologist and uses most of his time exploring his island, so adventuring is very, very cool to him. He even owns a Tomb Raider belt buckle with matching leg holsters, but alas, his shorts are too long for him to wear them properly. If there is one way to get Jake's attention, it's mentioning an adventure or exploring of some kind. He claims he doesn't really have time to even use Wikipedia or use proper grammar/syntax cause he's a busy guy and "has an adventure to get on with", quote. I should also say he has some weird obsession with skulls.
Jake is a really big nerd. Rather adorable, but very nerdy. He doesn't really seem to openly brag about his impressive collection of comics or movies, but it's obvious he has a stash since he brings up movies and comics a lot, often referencing them.
It's mentioned he especially likes comic books with spider girls in it or movies with cerulean ladies. What he's fascinated with is rather peculiar due to his eccentric personalty and possibly because he didn't have much social interaction growing up besides those he chats with. He's rather energetic and boisterous and possibly a bit of a "ham" who always seems to be on the go. There really isn't much of an explanation why he's so active, but it's certain that it's sort of difficult to calm him down once he gets riled up. One theory for his energy could be the fact he's used to keeping himself entertained since he has nobody else to communicate with in person. This also could explain why he talks with a very odd mix of words and syntax, some of them made up on his own.
Accompanied with being loud and boisterous, he gets flustered very easily, which can essentially lead to something I'll call here a flip out. It's happened several times in the series that he'll type in all caps and draw words out during these flip outs, or start to get embarrassed and sweaty when discussing a topic that is inappropriate or makes him feel nervous. He can get nervous easily. He has a tendency to yell without really thinking about what he's saying, especially during one of these skittish flip outs.
Jake does try his best to be polite and kind to strangers, especially women, but is very much a ruffian otherwise. In fact, he has enough guts to deck a lady if need be, as demonstrated when he attack Meenah in some of the most recent parts of the story, thinking she was the Condesce. Piggybacking on that statement, Jake really does enjoy brawling, probably more than he ought to. There's nothing like a good session of "fisticuffs", and he can sometimes invite himself into a fight without really meaning to from the start. Something about it is enthralling to him, and he would be the one to start a strife or challenge another first. He'll take up the sword, so to say, and plan to be the Blockbuster action hit movie hero, though he just kind of comes across as a major tool. Either way, Jake doesn't really seem ashamed of who he is and can be called a very free spirited individual.
He's very alert and overly prepared for anything. Like any normal person, he has five computers and fetch module in a puzzle form which means he can inventory as much as can properly fit. Given these thoughts, Jake is a packrat and possibly feels exposed or vulnerable when he doesn't have absolutely everything he needs for something. He even has pieces of his former house in his inventory for nostalgic sake. However, one thing he certainly won't leave his room without would be his two M9 Berettas which were a gift from his grandmother as inheritance. This sort of wanting to be prepared complex that he has must come from always being on high attentive considering his island is very dangerous, and he has a sparring robot partner that is also on the hunt for him when he leaves his room.
Jake is open about his interests to everybody without too much of shame. Whether it be about what he's passionate about, like girls associated with the color blue, or guns, or movies; he really doesn't stop and consider how awkward the conversation is getting, and neither does he really care that much. He can be very apologetic for anything that may seem out of line, especially when addressing a new person. Really, new introductions can be very sophisticated and painfully gentleman-like depending on his mood at the time. He will often apologize in advance, somewhere in the back of his wild mind that he's about to say or do something stupid.
Even with him being oblivious and hard to catch onto things, Jake does have a certain amount of untapped potential being a Page of Hope and all of that. He's had his share of brilliance and shown intelligence in ways he didn't think he subconsciously knew.
All things given, Jake is rather kind if you don't come across as dangerous. He can be insecure when meeting new people, but he's sweet to his friends. He seems to also get picked on and has a pretty good attitude about it without being too defensive.
Jake's handle is golgothasTerror, and his typing quirk can be read about here.
Re: Jake English | Homestuck | Reserved 4/4
( Other Important Facts ) :
Jake will have with him the following:
( Sample ) :
The heat index might as well be labeled as stupid degrees Fahrenheit with how hot it seemed outside. The occasional breeze provided by the palm trees overhead provided some relief when it cast over his tanned form, combat boots crunching the dry ground where he stepped. Jake swatted at a mosquito that resided on the back of his taunt neck, pressing his chipped nails inward as a slight hum passed through his lips. He was especially keen on his reflexes today. It had been days since he had last seen his sparring counterpart who seemed to be playing mind games with him. It would appear that the robot favored his closest comrade a bit too much; Jake wasn't entirely sure how he could even handle two Striders and an auto-responder as it was. Somehow he did; clearly he was out of his wits, but that was something he was naturally. Out of his wits.
The skitter caused by a small reptile causes Jake to practically flip his shit, leaping rather comically to the side and firing a single shot from one of his drawn pistols. Smoke flourishes into clear, and Jake blinks, still suspicious of the bush next to his side. He grits his teeth harshly, "I know you're around here, and by Jove, I'm not going to simply retreat when I've gotten this flippin' close to finding you, and I will get'ya, lickity-split--" Jake mutters under his breath as he brings the side of the pistol to his lips. He holds the gun close to him, lips pursing slightly as he inches further into the brush.
Emerald eyes, spiraling with determination, dart behind rectangular specs as he ignore a bead of salty sweat dripping from the corner of his thick brow. Jake huffs out a gust of air as he picks up his pace to a jog, knowing these grounds like the back of his hand. There's a log that's down over there to his right; he's sure of that. And it leads over a crevice in the earth off to a path that locates itself to a ruin. Easy as pie. There wasn't a spot of confidence missing from him that he didn't know his homeland by heart. Jake crawls over a boulder, which he knew was coming, and leaps into the bushes, probably more dramatically than he needed to. And so he rolls, further into the bush as he turns a trip up into a barrel roll.
Smooth.
He also was humming the Mission Impossible theme while doing so. The boy had to keep himself driven somehow. Jake adjusts his glasses before picking up his jog again. The hunt was on and he was determined to wrestle the robot and give himself a victory. He wasn't going to let his backside get royally kicked once more.
"Of all the blasted things for him to program him to do, it just had to be stealth mode--" A beat. Jake lifts himself up and rubs his forehead with the back of his head before muttering to himself, "--I really don't fancy stealth mode all the friggin' time, but he's too darn fast for me to fix that."
Something goes off in his pocket, which happens to be his mobile. It seems somebody was pestering him. They had a tendency to pester him at the worst and intense times. Jake, however, stops everything he's doing and rests against the tree entirely, pulling out his phone and texting whoever was pestering him back. It was almost planned how often this happened, as if Brobot and his friends were teaming against him.
He didn't even notice the pair of red eyes watching him carefully from the tree, slowly targeting the boy in silence.
