◣ Application ◢

APPLICATIONS ARE Closed

Applications will always be open from the 22nd until the end of the month, 12:00am EST.

Please note that as of July 28th, Vatheon will start working towards end game.

August 31st is the last day for applying. We will no longer open applications after that. Thank you for your consideration.

» Please make sure that you read the rules, and check the reserves before applying. People who do not read the rules will be rejected immediately.

» You are allowed to apply for two characters per application cycle. You may also reserve two characters. We will try to review each application as soon as possible. If longer than a week has passed and you have not heard back anything about your application, please drop us a message.

» Don't lie in your application. Don't copy / paste things from wiki. Keep what you post in your application strictly you. Sure, it's hard to add your own flair to writing history or a personality, but try to keep from summarizing too much. Show us your shine! Plagiarizing another player's application is ground for an immediate rejection.

» If someone has a reserve for a character, and you want to apply for them, you have the choice of either A) challenging the application with one of your own or B) waiting until the reserve expires and then applying/reserving as the character. If you challenge the original reserver, your application will not be reviewed until the original reserver has submitted theirs.

» Currently, the character limit is five characters. Any more is up to the mods, and must be discussed ahead of time with them. You may only apply for two characters from the same canon.

» Keep spamming to a minimum on the applications. Wait until that person is accepted into the game before holding out a conversation on a thread. Comment spamming here makes things cluttered, and a mod may accidentally miss something important. ( But feel free to comment-spam the Reserve page, if you'd like. )

» Please don't skip over any section of the application below.

» Please finish your application before posting. We reserve the right to decline any applications that are still unfinished when we process them.

» When reviewing applications, we take opinions of our members into consideration. If you would like to make a comment about an app that is being decided upon, do not hesitate. Here is where you can leave a comment with what you thought of another app. All comments will be screened for privacy, and the option to be anon will be left on. Do note, player opinions do not decide if an application is accepted or not, but will be taken into consideration.

☆ Player - - -

( Player Name ) : A nickname will work. Whatever you would like to be listed as.
( Personal DW ) : Not your character's journal. Your own, just in case one of the mods ever needs to contact you that way.
( Age ) : No players under the age of 15, please!
( Timezone ) : Just for reference sake!
( Other Characters ) : At Vatheon, that is. Please list in the following format.
Character ( Character's Journal ) | Series

☆ Character - - -

( Character's Name ) :
( Character's Age ) : There is no set age limit for the characters, and in fact, this is very flexible. So long as your character is mature enough to take care of him or herself and is mature enough for the game, they can be apped! As a basic guideline, think the maturity of someone around the age of 13 or so.
( Series ) :
( Canon Point ) : What part of the story of the series is your character coming in after? Did he or she just die? Did something traumatic just happen? Is it near the end, the beginning, or the middle? Tell us!
( Playability ) : If you are apping your second person for a particular canon, please give us a quick reasoning on why the characters would not be extensively interacting/how you are planning to avoid any playercest issues. If you are not apping from a canon you already play in, please disregard this section.

( History ) : You may provide us with a link to a wiki-page, or something else that will sufficiently give the Community and the mods background on your canon. If you wish to write out the history yourself, you still may do such.

( Personality ) : Probably the most important part of the application! Tell us what your character is like. We're looking for a well-developed analysis of the character. Perhaps between three to five paragraphs, roughly. Feel free to do more or less, however, if you think that better suits you. Most applications will be closer to the three than the five, and that's completely okay!

Just make sure to hit on crucial aspects of that character. What does he or she like? What does he or she hate? What are his or her motives? What parts of your character's past influenced how they are? Does your character act differently in front of different groups of people? Think of these questions as you write. Feel free to go off the page and focus on other questions. The above questions were just to get you thinking.

( Strengths/Weaknesses ) : So tell us! What can your character do well? What is your character weak against? Any cool spells? Good at picking locks? Anything you can think of, put it here.

( Other Important Facts ) : Have something else important to mention about your character that doesn't really fit in anywhere else? Be sure to include it here!

( Sample ) : This can be in first person or third person. There's no limit to your sample post. Just be sure to include your character's voice. Don't just write your character walking around! Be sure to include thoughts, quirks, and anything else that shows us you know your character. How would he or she react to the mark? How would he or she react to waking up some place new? Is he or she still brooding over something? The sample does not have to be set in Vatheon. You may also link to other roleplay threads; just be sure to give us something that shows how you plan to play them and clearly shows their voice! Or feel free to do a few of the above. Whatever you think will best show your characterization.

Please note! If you are linking samples, please make sure that at least one sample is from within the last three months. You are still free to link other samples that are older in addition, if you feel these would help show your ability to play the character, but at least one sample needs to be recent. Thank you.

If you are unable to think of a good starting point for a sample, we collected some prompts of situations that are pretty likely to happen within Vatheon to start you off. You are very welcome to deviate from these prompts or come up with something completely new. This is just something to hopefully help you get started:

A new curse has settled upon the city of Vatheon: Suddenly you character realizes they are unable to lie for the duration of a week. How do they react?

What is this? Is that rain? How nice-- wait a minute, is it raining rubber duckies? Seriously?

Suddenly, by the force of Vatheon, an over zealous npc, or even your character's friends playing a joke, your character suddenly finds themselves wearing clothes they otherwise would never wear. What do?

The city of Vatheon is under attack (again). Giant sea-creatures are wrecking the city (again). Time to prepare for battle.

A new plot development has happened and your character has decided to get some more information from one of the NPCs. How do they proceed?

( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) : Tell us here!

( Character's Name ) : Paarthurnax
( Character's Age ) : Centuries old
( Series ) : Skyrim
( Canon Point ) : After the Dragonborn beats Alduin
( Playability ) : This is not the dragon you're looking for

( History ) :
What is better- to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?

( Personality ) :
When one has lived for so many years, one tends to mellow out. This is true enough for humans, and very true for a dragon such as Paarthurnax. Some dragons are still very violent creatures. However, Paarthurnax has taken great pains to overcome his darker draconic nature. He has spent decades, if not centuries, mediating on the Throat of the World. It is an isolated place that was perfect for his purposes of hiding himself away from his temptations until he could better control them.

Clearly, this speaks of Paarthurnax's iron will. While Alduin's actions and beliefs are enough by the end of the game to seem uncomfortable for many other dragons, Paarthurnax was one of the first to abandon his brother. Many of the dragons the player runs into in the game are mostly those of the 'attack first' variety. It is only Paarthurnax and one other who is willing to talk with the player and hold back on their more selfish desire. He is an extremely patient and wise individual; how else could he found an entire order, especially from a race that would have the first impulse of screaming and running away at the sight of one such as him?

Of course, sometimes being so wise comes at a price. Paarthurnax had to admit that he did some atrocious things while working with his brother Alduin. That speaks something well of him, however. Paarthurnax is willing to reconsider his decisions and mindset in the hopes of bettering himself.

( Strengths/Weaknesses ) :
STRENGTHS:
--Well, for one thing, he is a giant dragon. That comes with the benefits of flight and a nasty set of sharp teeth-claws.
--Dragon Shouts: Being one of the oldest dragons in Skyrim and the entire world, Paarthurnax is quite knowledgeable in many of the Shouts, with the exception of Dragonrend.
--Like most dragons, Paarthurnax is extremely resilient and tough to kill as the various scars on his body can attest to. The fact that dragon bones and scales are valued as some of the most impressive armor one can find speaks to it.
WEAKNESSES:
--While his size can be dangerous in a fight, it is also hard for Paarthurnax to move around in smaller spaces.
--There is also the fact that he will probably be shrunk down a bit to fit within Vatheon, so he'll lose some of his more impressive size benefits.

( Other Important Facts ) :
His name means "Ambition Overlord Cruelty", how cool is that

( Sample ) :
Good morning, Vatheon. It seems like quite the lovely winter day down in the bubble. Being the last day of the month, it seems like the last of the foreigners has finally trickled in from wherever they are taken from. That really seems nice.

So just feel free to go about your morning business in the plaza! Wake up, go to the cafe, avoid the giant dragon tail that's sprawled over the street...

Wait, giant dragon tail? Holy shit, giant dragon!

Although... it doesn't seem as if the enormous beast currently partially submerged in the fountain is quite the type to breathe so much fire that will reduce everyone in the nearby area to a charred corpse. In fact, there is a startling lack of fire being breathed! Really, he seems more concerned with pulling himself out of the fountain and looking over his massive body. A massive body full of scars wrought through scales, torn wings, and cracked horns...

He also seems to be carefully watching his surroundings, the people in particular. Is that a bit of caution and uncertainty in his gaze...?

Well. There's one way to find out.

Who wants to go up to the giant dragon taking up a good chunk of the plaza?

( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) : Guys let me in before I regret impulse apping

( Personality ) :
One of Skyrim's most notable characteristics that distinguishes it from other Elder Scrolls games is its inclusion of dragons. Previously, the only mention of them was with the forms that gods or daedric princes would take. This game makes them plentiful, and the character will have plenty of opportunities to fight them. In fact, that's the majority of what the character does even when not involved in the main quest. In order to unlock the power of the Dragon Shouts, hey need to fight at least around sixty dragons to absorb their souls. They are an extremely powerful race, but also highly aggressive. There is no way you can really avoid a confrontation with at least one.

So it says something that when the player character firsts runs into the very old and very powerful dragon Paarthurnax at the highest point in all of the world, he doesn't just blow them off with a small breath. In fact, he offers to help the Dragonborn and teach them more about their power. At his very heart, it seems that Paarthurnax is actually a good person even if he is a giant dragon that could fit a couple of people inside his mouth. Most dragons don't even glance twice at mortals before roasting or freezing them to death. Paarthurnax actually counts a few humans as his close friends. In fact, he held those humans in such high regard that he betrayed his own brother and helped overthrow his tyrannical rule.

He trusted them so much, he taught them how to use Dragon Shouts. He helped them figure out a unique man-made shout that could destroy him if those humans decided to use it against him. In a world where the majority doesn't trust him and his own kind often fight amongst each other, Paarthurnax has learned in his long years of living to give his trust carefully.

In fact, Paarthurnax has learned a lot in his many years of living as an immortal dragon. He is nothing if not willing to learn, and in fact to teach. He's learned that human lives are just as valuable as dragons, and sometimes, you're not always right. Sometimes the people you love and care for are not always right. If the various scars and broken horns and tattered wings are not signs enough, it's that he's gone through his trials.

However, he is not the type to simply just stop the wrong things he's doing and say that's enough. Paarthurnax believes in action, in his own way. As a giant dragon that is feared by most of the world, his actions are fairly limited. So he decided to take on the no doubt agonizingly long process of starting up his own school of sorts. For regular humans it takes effort to learn how to do Dragon Shouts. It also kind of takes effort to get over your fear of a giant dragon, when dragons are reputed to eat people. Nonetheless, Paarthurnax took up the challenge and became the isolated leader of the Greybeards. This is a testament to both his will to do something and have it be done, and also his extreme patience.

If possible, it seems as though he would like to avoid conflict. At the end of the main quest and if he is left alive, Paarthurnax decides to go search out the remaining dragons and get them to listen to him so that they stop causing trouble. Of course, considering that arguments and debates for dragons are almost the same as battling, this obviously means that Paarthurnax is no slouch. He is one of the only dragons to escape the great war Alduin started and still be alive. He is extremely powerful, but uses it wisely. Think of him like the old mentor in martial arts films.

Despite his patience and his relative kindness in comparison to the rest of his kind, Paarthurnax is still an immortal dragon that has been alive for centuries. He doesn't quite see things as perhaps mortals do. In one of his conversations with the player character, he asks why shouldn't the world end? It's simply the way of things- one world ending so that another can begin. Of course the main point was to make the character (and hopefully player) do a bit of thinking, as Paarthurnax is a teacher and that's his job, but the fact that he could think of it shows a bit of a disconnect. Paarthurnax has seen this cycle before. He knows it well by now, although he will of course still help the PC.

( Sample ) :

For a brief, split second, Paarthurnax wonders if he had perhaps been tricked or deceived by a Daedric Prince of some sort. Unusual, certainly, for one of their kind to deal with one of his, although not entirely unheard of. Sheogorath cares little for what is considered 'right'. Peryite mimicks them for reasons Paarthurnax can only think of.

Carefully drawing himself up from the large fountain he seems to have found himself in, Paarthurnax cautiously glances over the large plaza he is in the middle of. Humans... It's almost surprising that there isn't more screaming. Yes, it might have been a very long time since he himself landed amongst any of their kind besides his Greybeards, but he still knows the typical reaction well. Perhaps this really is a Daedric illusion of some sort.

He hardly notices the water pouring down his scales as he pulls himself out of the fountain, his wings stretching out to dry somewhat. A strange kind of illusion for the Daedra, however, he thinks to himself as his eyes glance up to the large dome encasing the city; old he may be, but his gaze is still sharp. This doesn't seem right at all.

Any normal person would simply ask one of those milling about the plaza, but, well. Paarthurnax isn't quite sure of it just yet. So for now, he simply takes up most of the plaza, having nowhere else to really go for now. Until he feels a bit more sure of himself in this place, he will simply watch these humans... Watch and learn, for the entirety of the day if he needs to. Sometimes it is the best way of learning.
