Below is a place to thread out quick little conversations with the NPCs that aren't worth an entire log. Vatheon's staple NPCs will have postings here, and all the other new quest NPCs will simply be listed under the "Quest NPCs" comment header. [Undertaker had spent plenty of time in the Library anyways, so it was rather easy to find it and the tiny robbed man inside.]

Time is what we want most, but what we use worst. Since no one knows just how much they have until it's gone they forget to use it wisely~

It's a shame time isn't a little more flexible, isn't it?

Oh, I think you'll find that people who lack time find a way to make more...

[Poor Undertaker, all his powers sealed off like this. He won't have advance warning for what's coming. There's a bright light suddenly, then a massive minotaur swinging right for his face. With not enough time to cast, he's going to have to figure out something quick. Can he bend time now that the situation is desperate?

[Kid had a personal hand in taking care of the Library's little Harpy problem, and had, for certain personal reasons, spent much time there lately.

So, as he heard an interesting rumor with regards to the diminutive robed man, Kid had no reason to hesitate in addressing him directly.]

Excuse me--

[He was promptly hushed by a librarian, and he obediently lowered his voice.]

Excuse me. Would you be so kind as to give me the time? [Producing from his pocket a small pocketwatch, Kid holds it aloft. It looks like an engraved skull with a clock inside it, a gift he received for Christmas.] What I have appears to be inadequate.

[It tells the time perfectly.]

[The man chuckles, his voice surprisingly deep for someone of his stature. In acquiescence to the librarian he also keeps the volume down.]

Clever boy, aren't you? Clever, clever. Time is just another part of nature, you know, and we mages must learn to bend nature to our will. If the time you have appears inadequate, what do you think you should do?

[Compliments will get you everywhere, sir. If time is just part of nature, and mages must bend nature to suit their needs:]

Bend time? If it were possible to, I'm sure it would make numerous things more convenient.

[Like those aggravatingly long casting times, for a guy accustomed to firing a pair of handguns to immediate effect.]

But how is it done?

That is the trick, isn't it? Ah, I'm afraid it's not something that you can do whenever you please. Time may not be a delicate thing, but you don't want to just bend it willy-nilly just for convenience's sake! But if you find yourself in a life or death battle with no time left, I think you'll be able to find it in yourself to make a little more.

[The tiny man waves his hand in front of Kid's eyes. Suddenly, he'd find himself face to face with an enormous minotaur that's already mid swing. There really is no time! Thankfully for Kid, rpgs work in such a way that skills like this one are unlocked as needed.]

[This event is so full of RPG cliches that it burns, but Nanaki is willing to suck it up and go with it if she'll be more effective of a magic-user.]

Hello, are you the guy from the quest board? About the magic-stuff?

[He chuckles with a surprisingly deep voice, turning to look at Nanaki.]

I just might be at that. Are you studying to be a mage?

[She nods at that.]

Yeah, it's nice to be able to do something more active for once too. So if you know anything that might help make me even better at it, I'd really appreciate it if you taught me.

[What, does she think he's just going to teach her just like that?]

What would you say the single greatest weakness of a mage is?

[It took a little bit of searching, but she finally made her way to the man she assumed the message board had been talking about.

Of course...it was rude to assume.]

Are you the man who can help me learn more about magic?

[Oh no, she's so cute! How can he try to teach her like he does everyone else?! Well, she's an adventurer even if she's a kid, so she's going to be fighting anyway...]

That's right. Are you a mage, little one?

[She puts on her most serious and determined face. This is important!]

[Well, she was trying, at least.]

I'm hoping to get better.

[Fai was more then happy to go and learn how to control his new elements. When he spots the man, he walks up and smiles brightly.]

I heard you could teach me a bit more about elements. I have to admit this isn't my first time using magic though. I have figured out quite a bit on my own but I'd be happy to have some pointers from someone with more experience with fire or water. I'm far more used to using ice.

Is that so? How do you find this magic so far, then?

[He is curious what mages from other worlds think of it!]

It's very interesting! With my magic I had to whistle to make it effective. With this, I simply summon it from my body. I like it! It's so much easier to understand this way because you simply have to know your own body, versus memorizing specific tunes.

[As much as Eridan thinks magic is a bunch of stinking HORSEFEATHERS, he knows how this all goes, he's a mage in this weird curse bullshit, and he needs to take away as much weakness as this class gives him, so with no other choice he'll humor this guy and his little quest.]

Alright, I heard you got some way a makin' a... [Through gritted teeth:] mage learn how to cast his spells faster. Seein' as that's a great fuckin' adwantage to hawe, I suggest you get talkin'.

[Eridan ever the impatient and demanding. Sorry Tiny Robed Man, this is what you have to deal with.]

[The man lowers his book very, very slowly. If Eridan's not careful he's going to find this to be an extremely unpleasant learning experience.]

Is that how you ask a favor, young man?

[He looks almost perplexed by the question, but then his features fall into something more flat as he sneers.]

I think you're confused, I wasn't askin'.

[So far during this curse, Shiro had figured out one very crucial thing:

Walking everywhere really did suck.

Okay, no, that wasn't really it. He was a little miffed that his King powers had been taken away yet again, and he missed being able to thoughtlessly and easily float everywhere he needed to go, but what he had actually learned was that he was not the fastest spell caster around. Everything was so much easier when the power simply acted and there was no fuss or whatever else involved with it.

A glance at the quest board told him that there may have been a way to go about fixing that, so he gladly trotted to the library when he had a moment and went in search of the small man.

Oh.

That description wasn't kidding, was it?

Shiro blinked a few times before finally finding his voice, speaking in a hushed tone.]

Sorry to bother you sir, but are you the one I need to ask about the mage skill?

[He's so small that he looks as if he might be a child. It's hard to tell with that hood he's wearing... until he speaks, at least. His voice is very deep.]

That would be me. And I see that you are a new mage, hmm?

[parasolspinning]

[Indeed. Shiro is even left thinking that he might be as small as the white haired girl from HOMURA. That's... pretty damn tiny. And deceiving, given the voice that comes out of the man.

When he speaks, Shiro instantly straightens, trying to look respectful. Never mind that he is, in reality, much older than the teenage body standing before the mage. It still seems like the right thing to do.]
