◣ Application ◢

APPLICATIONS ARE Closed

Applications will always be open from the 22nd until the end of the month, 12:00am EST.

Please note that as of July 28th, Vatheon will start working towards end game.

August 31st is the last day for applying. We will no longer open applications after that. Thank you for your consideration.

» Please make sure that you read the rules, and check the reserves before applying. People who do not read the rules will be rejected immediately.

» You are allowed to apply for two characters per application cycle. You may also reserve two characters. We will try to review each application as soon as possible. If longer than a week has passed and you have not heard back anything about your application, please drop us a message.

» Don't lie in your application. Don't copy / paste things from wiki. Keep what you post in your application strictly you. Sure, it's hard to add your own flair to writing history or a personality, but try to keep from summarizing too much. Show us your shine! Plagiarizing another player's application is ground for an immediate rejection.

» If someone has a reserve for a character, and you want to apply for them, you have the choice of either A) challenging the application with one of your own or B) waiting until the reserve expires and then applying/reserving as the character. If you challenge the original reserver, your application will not be reviewed until the original reserver has submitted theirs.

» Currently, the character limit is five characters. Any more is up to the mods, and must be discussed ahead of time with them. You may only apply for two characters from the same canon.

» Keep spamming to a minimum on the applications. Wait until that person is accepted into the game before holding out a conversation on a thread. Comment spamming here makes things cluttered, and a mod may accidentally miss something important. ( But feel free to comment-spam the Reserve page, if you'd like. )

» Please don't skip over any section of the application below.

» Please finish your application before posting. We reserve the right to decline any applications that are still unfinished when we process them.

» When reviewing applications, we take opinions of our members into consideration. If you would like to make a comment about an app that is being decided upon, do not hesitate. Here is where you can leave a comment with what you thought of another app. All comments will be screened for privacy, and the option to be anon will be left on. Do note, player opinions do not decide if an application is accepted or not, but will be taken into consideration.

☆ Player - - -

( Player Name ) : A nickname will work. Whatever you would like to be listed as.
( Personal DW ) : Not your character's journal. Your own, just in case one of the mods ever needs to contact you that way.
( Age ) : No players under the age of 15, please!
( Timezone ) : Just for reference sake!
( Other Characters ) : At Vatheon, that is. Please list in the following format.
Character ( Character's Journal ) | Series

☆ Character - - -

( Character's Name ) :
( Character's Age ) : There is no set age limit for the characters, and in fact, this is very flexible. So long as your character is mature enough to take care of him or herself and is mature enough for the game, they can be apped! As a basic guideline, think the maturity of someone around the age of 13 or so.
( Series ) :
( Canon Point ) : What part of the story of the series is your character coming in after? Did he or she just die? Did something traumatic just happen? Is it near the end, the beginning, or the middle? Tell us!
( Playability ) : If you are apping your second person for a particular canon, please give us a quick reasoning on why the characters would not be extensively interacting/how you are planning to avoid any playercest issues. If you are not apping from a canon you already play in, please disregard this section.

( History ) : You may provide us with a link to a wiki-page, or something else that will sufficiently give the Community and the mods background on your canon. If you wish to write out the history yourself, you still may do such.

( Personality ) : Probably the most important part of the application! Tell us what your character is like. We're looking for a well-developed analysis of the character. Perhaps between three to five paragraphs, roughly. Feel free to do more or less, however, if you think that better suits you. Most applications will be closer to the three than the five, and that's completely okay!

Just make sure to hit on crucial aspects of that character. What does he or she like? What does he or she hate? What are his or her motives? What parts of your character's past influenced how they are? Does your character act differently in front of different groups of people? Think of these questions as you write. Feel free to go off the page and focus on other questions. The above questions were just to get you thinking.

( Strengths/Weaknesses ) : So tell us! What can your character do well? What is your character weak against? Any cool spells? Good at picking locks? Anything you can think of, put it here.

( Other Important Facts ) : Have something else important to mention about your character that doesn't really fit in anywhere else? Be sure to include it here!

( Sample ) : This can be in first person or third person. There's no limit to your sample post. Just be sure to include your character's voice. Don't just write your character walking around! Be sure to include thoughts, quirks, and anything else that shows us you know your character. How would he or she react to the mark? How would he or she react to waking up some place new? Is he or she still brooding over something? The sample does not have to be set in Vatheon. You may also link to other roleplay threads; just be sure to give us something that shows how you plan to play them and clearly shows their voice! Or feel free to do a few of the above. Whatever you think will best show your characterization.

Please note! If you are linking samples, please make sure that at least one sample is from within the last three months. You are still free to link other samples that are older in addition, if you feel these would help show your ability to play the character, but at least one sample needs to be recent. Thank you.

If you are unable to think of a good starting point for a sample, we collected some prompts of situations that are pretty likely to happen within Vatheon to start you off. You are very welcome to deviate from these prompts or come up with something completely new. This is just something to hopefully help you get started:

A new curse has settled upon the city of Vatheon: Suddenly you character realizes they are unable to lie for the duration of a week. How do they react?

What is this? Is that rain? How nice-- wait a minute, is it raining rubber duckies? Seriously?

Suddenly, by the force of Vatheon, an over zealous npc, or even your character's friends playing a joke, your character suddenly finds themselves wearing clothes they otherwise would never wear. What do?

The city of Vatheon is under attack (again). Giant sea-creatures are wrecking the city (again). Time to prepare for battle.

A new plot development has happened and your character has decided to get some more information from one of the NPCs. How do they proceed?

( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) : Tell us here!

Wiki

( Personality ) :
Mithos has been referred to as everything from the ultimate case of Tragic Villain, to a fallen hero. Both are correct.

While Mithos first appears as cruel, megalomaniacal, and with a massive (and seemingly well-deserved at the time) superiority complex, deep beneath the layers of evil, he is actually just a depressed, grieving, loving little brother. This definitely doesn't become apparent until much later in the game, however. He refers to Lloyd and his party as "inferior beings," right before delivering a beatdown of epic proportions in which the player is to be commended if the Hopeless Boss Fight doesn't end in the first ten seconds. Later, however, much more light is shed on Mithos' horrendous mess of mental health. It is revealed that he loved his sister Martel very dearly, and her death at the hands of humans absolutely devastated him. The anime and the manga actually shows that while Martel was alive, he was actually a really sweet kid, and had a lot in common with Lloyd and Genis, though he was a bit of a brat towards Yuan. He genuinely wanted to save the world, but after Martel was killed, it all went downhill from there.

His love for Martel is the driving force of virtually every major goal of his. In his anger and grief, he misinterpreted her final wish to such a degree that "create a world without discrimination" registered to him as "commit genocide against the offending species and turn everyone else into an inorganic, emotionless master race." Her death consolidated his belief that humans, half-elves, and elves will never get along voluntarily, and for that reason, he feels the need to end discrimination artificially by causing everyone to become the same.

Because of Martel's death, Mithos is, to put it bluntly, racist against humans, and he's not a fan of full-blooded elves, either. He outright refers to Lloyd and his party as 'inferior' for being human, and aside from his stint as an undercover (and tragically, unplayable) guest party member, refuses to trust humans on principle. He believes they are incapable of tolerating half-elves, and it's my personal belief that if he ever found out what happened in Dawn of the New World when it comes to the war between the Vanguard and Tethe'alla, he'd feel vindicated.

At one point, Mithos seems to express some form of remorse; or at the very least, doubts that what he is doing is right. He expresses these to Noishe, in the process revealing that he truly cannot live without Martel, and her death had such a profound effect on him, that it has affected his sanity. This would show that Mithos does have a conscience; but at the same time, he truly believes that what he is doing is for the good of the world, and that the ends really do justify the means. He states that if what he is doing is wrong, he will have no reason to continue living, perhaps even hinting that he has contemplated suicide. This would not be surprising, given his severe depression. To use TV Tropes jargon, Mithos is one of the best examples of 'Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds' found in the entire Tales series, with Arietta the Wild at a close second.

If Mithos ever had any real shot at friendship, it was with Genis Sage, another half-elf and a protagonist. Genis had everything Mithos ever wanted, up to and including his older sister, Raine Sage. Friends, people who cared about him, humans who accepted him, and a sister that loved him and took care of him. When Mithos found out Yuan was the leader of the Renegades, a splinter-faction of the Desians that were sabotaging his operations from the inside, Mithos' continued downward spiral was assured, which was probably what made him openly betray Genis when it became clear who he really was. Up to that point, Mithos honestly seemed to be recovering; he saved Tabatha's life, when he later admitted to hating her for being a 'failed' artificial vessel for Martel's soul, and even did the same to Genis when he was being attacked by Pronyma and Mithos was fighting the party in his Yggdrasill form. He just couldn't take the idea that the people he thought were his closest allies were turning on him, and had been for a while.

Despite the fact that Mithos has committed everything from creating a false religion, to betrayal of multiple people, to the attempted, systematic genocide of an entire species, Mithos does not seem to do this out of some evil malice. While there is no question that he despises humans, his motivations for killing them are not based on prejudice alone. Mithos really does believe that he is morally justified in ending discrimination by creating an 'age of lifeless beings.' While this is by far the most twisted and downright delusional interpretation possible of Martel's final wish, he believes that no race will willingly accept half-elves on their merit; the only solution is for everyone to become the same species while at the same time removing emotions, thus eliminating the basis for discrimination.

Mithos seems to have a habit of making enemies everywhere he goes. While he does enjoy the near-fanatical level of loyalty from the Desians (with the exception of the overly-ambitious Rodyle, but really, who likes him anyway?), Mithos' two most trusted partners, Yuan and Kratos, were both plotting against him. Even Mithos' only true friend, Genis, was pushed away by his selfishness and hateful personality. His selfish mindset and inability to consider anyone's feelings but his own is what contributed the most to his core personality flaw, besides prejudice against humans; loneliness.

It even appears to have gotten to the point that Mithos suffers a bit from disassociative personality disorder. While in his Yggdrasill form, Mithos appears far more brutal and stereotypically villain-like, without the signs of immaturity he shows as his younger form. He claims that he takes this form to take on a more fitting appearance to rule Cruxis (because, let's face it, the regal, angelic form of his adult body is more intimidating and imposing than a kid), but it almost appears as if the two forms have differing personalities; so much so that Mithos, similar to Bruce Wayne, took on an entirely new identity as Lord Yggdrasill, maybe as a coping mechanism (that, for all intents and purposes, wasn't as effective as he might have liked). This makes sense when you consider the Desians are not allowed to call him 'Mithos'; only Kratos and Yuan can, as well as apparently Lloyd and his party.

Unfortunately, when he finally did resurrect Martel in Colette's body, his sister condemned what he was doing, and said the fact that he made so many people suffer for her sake wasn't what she wanted, he passed the point of no return. Mithos snapped, and particularly in the anime adaptation, comes across as borderline yandere. Unfortunately, Martel then made the mistake of saying "Maybe elves should have never left Derris Kharlan," causing Mithos, in his insanity, denial, and grief, to misinterpret her again, deciding that he and Martel were too good for the world, and that if he can't have his 'Age of Lifeless Beings,' he was going to take Martel and the Great Seed, break Derris Kharlan's orbit, and leave Sylvarant and Tethe'alla to rot and eventually die without a mana supply while he builds a whole new world just for him and his sister. Yeah, damn.

The fact is, Mithos had nobody outside of Martel growing up, and when Kratos and Yuan both betrayed him after she died, being with her again was all he had left to live for. It isn't impossible that Mithos might find someone else to transfer his feelings onto, assuming we never get a Martel. In fact, this might actually be good for him, and be the first step towards finally letting go of her. While some fans speculate that the reason he's so desperate to bring her back from the dead is because Kratos and Yuan should have stepped up and took better care of him - after all, having Godlike powers and unquestioned authority with no sense of responsibility and a traumatic incident like this (while being only fourteen years old), causing him to simmer in hatred and despair is a very, very bad combination - it is clear that Mithos has a very dependent personality, and was never able to fill the void left behind by Martel's death.

( Strengths/Weaknesses ) :
There is no question whatsoever that Mithos is by far the strongest magic-user in the game, and in many ways, in both the game and its sequel. He is capable of all of the top-tier magic spells found in the game (except the Dark-element spells), as well as the Angel spells; including some that even Collete doesn't have access to. His Cruxis crystal, due to its advanced age (as well as Mithos likely creating it specially, in comparison to those born by other characters in the game), produces angel wings that are far more impressive than those of the other characters in the game, being at least twice the wingspan of Colette, and having a myriad of different colors. His physical strength and endurance render him nigh-impervious to damage, as well as grant him a healing factor. He describes his body as 'inorganic' in the manga, which is how he is able to change his physical age at will. He usually appears as either an innocent-looking fourteen year old boy (considered his 'true form' as this was his actual age when he first gained the Cruxis Crystal), or as a body that appears to be in its early-to-mid twenties, and is far more regal (and in some ways, intimidating) in appearance, with longer hair and a more 'fancy' outfit. Mithos takes this form because he believes it's more 'fitting' for the ruler of Cruxis. Interestingly, his Yggdrasill form has different colored wings than his 'normal' form, and the reason for this is never explained.

For a complete list of his spells, try watching this video, or this video. From what I counted, I saw the following artes being used by both forms:

  • Judgment
  • Death Eater (called "Death Knell" in the Japanese version)
  • Ray
  • Holy Lance
  • Absolute
  • Indignation
  • Flame Lane
  • Explosion
  • Ground Dasher
  • Thunder Arrow
  • Thunder Blade
  • Prism Sword
  • Gravity Well
  • Indignant Judgment (Mystic Arte)
  • Time Stop (Mystic Arte from Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3)
  • "Yggdrasill Laser" (from the remake and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3)
  • Retribution (causes a multitude of different status ailments; considered the antithesis to Colette's "Holy Song")
  • Outburst / Rejection (basically the same spell, anti-melee with knockback/knockdown)

Like other angels, Mithos is immune to light magic, but weak against dark magic. Bringing Colette or Raine to fight him is a bad idea, unless you turn off autocast on their light spells, or they'll only waste their mana. Conversely, Sheena is a good choice to bring, due to her Shadow summon, which hits Mithos pretty hard.

The Cruxis Crystal also removes his need to eat, sleep, or drink, and makes him immortal. While his body can indeed die, his soul will remain inside his Cruxis Crystal until it, too, is destroyed.

Aside from his obvious weakness against Dark-element magic (as well as the Devil Arms weapons), Mithos' personality is his main shortcoming. He is distrustful of everyone around him, is completely anti-social, and comes across as a either a racist little brat, or some kind of insane angel, depending on which form he's taking. While it's entirely possible for him to fake kindness - as seen in the game - a lot of character development will be needed for him to overcome his inability to form any meaningful bonds. It's definitely not impossible, but old habits don't break easily.

    ( Other Important Facts ) :
Mithos will arrive slightly wounded, due to his canon point. He'll be fine in a few days or so; he heals rather quickly, after all, thanks to that Cruxis Crystal. By the way, he needs that Cruxis Crystal; he will die without it, and if it ever gets damaged (without completely breaking), he'd likely be one Eldritch Abomination of an exebula.

    ( Sample ) :
How about one from this very RP? :D

( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) : Mandie may make fun of me to her heart's content for actually forgetting to do AC. :
