[ Character's Name ] : Yu Narukami
[ Character's Age ] : 17
[ Series ] : Name Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
[ Canon Point ] : Post True Ending
[ History ] :
Wikia Entry
[ Personality ] :
To preface this section, the protagonist of Persona 4 is something of a blank slate, a silent hero whose personality is somewhat crafted by the player. Thus in writing this section, I'll mostly focus on how I intend to play him, drawing characteristics in part from his manga and anime interpretations, as well as from various decisions and actions he invariably takes in the game itself.
Yu initially comes off as a somewhat unusual young man, difficult to get a read on and usually fairly stoic. He isn't prone to speaking very much, preferring to keep things to himself, though he certainly doesn't refrain from making a comment here and there, usually reflecting a somewhat sarcastic wit. He doesn't hesitate to poke fun at those around him or correct others, while at the same time being rather strange himself. His mood tends to be quite somber and serious, though that doesn't always quite reflect his thoughts on any given situation: deadpan delivery of quirky jokes or comments is perhaps his forte. Despite being a transfer student to Yasoinaba at the start of the story, he makes many friends quickly, having a kind of quiet charisma that draws others to him. In general he's rather kind and helpful to those around him, never hesitating to lend a hand or an ear to hear someone's troubles. While seldom more of an active force in guiding his friends towards solving their own troubles, his simple presence and support are usually enough for his friends to move onward and achieve cathartic breakthroughs.
He tends to lead by example more than through words, believing firmly in doing the right thing and helping others no matter what the cost. He gets quickly embroiled in the murder mystery case in Yasoinaba simple through coincidence, but instead of turning away from the potential responsibility that his power gives him, he chooses to face it head on and pursue the culprit at great risk to himself. He saves people that are put into the television world simply because it is the right thing to do and he can't rely on anyone else to do it. As he proceeds and things become more dangerous, including threats to himself in the form of letters, he remains determined to continue doing what he has done. He doesn't lose sight of his own objections and purpose, holding a great sense of maturity and responsibility that most likely wouldn't have at his age. His companions recognize his reliability when they appoint him as their leader, drawing upon his reserved yet strong sense of presence and character.
Of particular note is his ability to remain calm and composed, even in the face of exceptional circumstances. When his cousin and uncle, both of which he cares for deeply, are greatly injured during the course of the murder investigation, he nonetheless keeps his wits about him and proceeds in the way best suited to helping them both. When he believes his cousin has perished as the result of the actions of whom he believes to be the culprit, Taro Namatame, he still keeps calm and analyzes the situation. Despite his friends seeking justice and retribution against Namatame, inflamed by events and letting anger cloud their judgment, Yu recognizes certain inconsistencies in the events and stays their hands, leading them all to realize that Namatame wasn't the true culprit, but instead was used by another. Throughout the story he commonly serves as a voice of reason when faced with the dilemmas and inner conflicts of others, particularly when it comes to events in the television world.
One of the underlying themes of the entire game is the relentless pursuit of the truth, even when faced with a fog of lies. No character embodies this more than Yu, who time and time again is faced with deceit but must still move forward. Yu is meant to represent hope, whereas two of the other central characters of the game represent emptiness (Adachi) and despair (Namatame). He has a certain sense of optimism of youth as well as the idea of the numerous paths and possibilities before a person. Despite, at first, somewhat resenting his situation, forced to move from an urban setting to a rural town as a result of his parents' work, he makes the best of it and becomes stronger for it. Rather than being bitter or despondent, he makes numerous close friends and constantly strives to better both himself and those around him. He is something of a jack of all trades, a little skilled with nearly everything, and always tries to reach out to those around him. Over the course of the story he grows a great deal, along with those around him, developing from the strange new kid in town to a central figure in the lives of all those around him.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
+ Yu's major strength is his empathy... his ability to reach out to others and relate to them. While he isn't the most talkative of people, he makes for a good listener. He excels at supporting other people emotionally, even if all it takes is some nudges in the right direction or words of encouragement.
+ He's courageous and bold, willing to face danger head on to save others. He rarely thinks twice about putting himself in harms way; while he's understandably reluctant at first to enter the TV world and face the unknown, once he realizes what's at risk he hits the ground running and never looks back. He has a strong will and a determined mindset, and always finds the best in others. Even when it comes to someone like Adachi, he's willing to give him a second chance (of sorts) and trusts the letter he was sent.
+ As discussed above in the personality, his greatest strength is his hope. His ability to have hope in the face of a seemingly impossible situation. More than anything else, this is what allows him to be a leader and solve the incident that plagues Inaba during his year there.
- As far as weaknesses go... his greatest weakness is a counterpoint to his sense of empathy, and that's how detached and unemotional he can seem at times. It can often seem like he doesn't care about others or relate to what they're feeling based on how passive and stone faced he often appears. In truth, this is more likely due to trouble he has expressing himself, as well as a certain sense of social awkwardness he's engendered due to having to suddenly move.
- He can also be a bit naive and too trusting. He trusts Adachi to a fault, though that is true of everyone. Like most, he ends up not suspecting those who are close to him, and that causes the murder mystery to be drawn out even longer. It's hard to say whether he could have figured out Adachi's role sooner, but the detective undoubtedly takes advantage of his trust and naivety.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
He's part of an underground effort to make bowlcuts stylish once more.
[ Sample ] :
[ as he video feed begins, it almost seems like the young man on the screen is waiting for someone else to say something. realizing that isn't going to happen, he finally raises a hand in greeting. ]
Hello.
[ the customary greeting complete, he takes a glance to his left and right. despite having only recently arrived in a completely foreign world, he doesn't seem too perturbed. instead he pulls something out of the pocket of his jacket and holds it up. on closer inspection it looks... like a ticket stub? ]
I think I missed my stop.
[ ...no, that's probably not what happened. but he looks entirely serious as he says the line, staring expectantly for someone to help him remedy his "mistake." getting no response, he just tucks the ticket back into his jacket figuring it might serve some purpose later on. who knows, he doesn't want to run into some irate train conductor in the future and find himself unprepared... ]
I was on a train from Yasoinaba to Tokyo... [ a slight sigh. ] Unless Tokyo has really changed in the last year, I'm pretty sure this isn't it. Can someone tell me where I am...?
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : I've played Persona 4: The Golden and have considered implementing a few things from it in my portrayal of Yu... it shouldn't be anything particularly major, he'll just recall a few things happening that others might not (ski trip, Mari, etc). I'll try to limit spoilers as much as possible, which shouldn't be too hard since Yu isn't the type to talk much and volunteer information on his own.
If this is problematic though and people would rather I not incorporate this at all since Golden has yet to be brought over and localized, I'd totally understand and just leave it out. It's really nothing important to playing him, just something interesting I thought I might throw in there to add a little extra flavor.

[ Personal DW ] :
frudence
[ Age ] : 26
[ Timezone ] : CST
[ Other Characters ] : Caden/Riku Replica
[ Character's Name ] : Nico
[ Character's Age ] : Grown. (Adult bird age.)
[ Series ] : Name Rio: The Movie (2011)
[ Canon Point ] : Flying out of the Smugglers' Plane
[ History ] : All that's canon anyway. Basically Nico knew Pedro & Rafael for at least a year prior to the movie, plus he'd met Luiz at least once. Nico has also traveled outside of Brazil at some point in his life, but resides primarily in the neighborhood of Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro.
[ Personality ] :
The first thing anyone will notice about Nico is how much he enjoys singing, dancing, making music, partying - everything that Carnaval encompasses. He is thus a very outgoing and animated bird, no pun intended. He is in general very sassy, makes jokes often, and has a positive outlook on life. Beyond that, however, he is actually well-intentioned. He doesn't ignore what people say; he just tries to reroute the conversation in a more upbeat direction whenever possible. This can and does entail helping birds in distress with whatever little things they need - a song to lift the mood, an extra set of wings on a journey, or tracking down a lost friend, for example.
The quickest way to concern Nico is through someone being in physical danger of some sort - including himself. Since he is so small, even compared to other birds, he is actively aware of what he can and cannot do on the scale of raw power. (This is one reason he supports Pedro's capoeira.) After that, though, he will also sob dispassionately if someone speaks out against samba - his favorite style of performance. He is more than capable of enjoying various kinds of music, jokes, hobbies, etc. - but outright dislike of any one genre hurts his heart. He openly supports creativity and praises it when he sees it. By and large, he is difficult to ruffle and easy to excite.
Admittedly Nico's internal motivations are very basic - he wants a life that isn't restrictive. While this is very simplistic, it's not easy to accomplish and won't be easy to maintain in an RP setting, without friends and without his chosen environ of the greater Rio area. The mere fact that there's a limit on the sky will disorient and frustrate him. On the other hand, since he is a professional tag-along, he should also have little difficulty slipping in and out of various friendship circles as he finds himself enjoying their company or able to help them in small ways.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Nico is mostly a rhythm singer and accompanies himself with percussion instruments, including his own hat that he uses like a tambourine and drumming on (small) human objects. He thoroughly enjoys jamming with others, interweaving his talents with theirs. Interestingly, he is the only bird to accessorize, using a soda-cap hat for a hat, on a day-to-day basis; the only other ones that do (the macaques and Luiz the bulldog) do so for special occasions. He will even use his hat as a performance element like rolling it across his wings and flipping it around. He can also use it as a frisby-like weapon; since it's made out of metal, it can pack a punch. He is very agile, not just in the air.
Nico is more perceptive than his compatriots, in terms of small details of both vision and situation analysis. He is also very open to new ideas, probably due to traveling. That being said, though, he is still not book-smart the way Blu is. Nico does not know how to open cages with his beak, nor does he exhibit the string-playing ability of Pedro, and he certainly doesn't know how to operate machinery like Luiz. He knows how to hitch a ride on vehicles and dance around human objects, but it's largely a passive interaction with the larger world.
His strongest trait would have to be the ability to command a room. He is nowhere near shy, but specifically he has the charisma to speak up in crowds, direct the actions of a group, sing concert style or as a balladeer, and attract new friends easily.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
He speaks both Portuguese and English variants of the universal animal language in Rio's mythos. There is evidence that the animals understand human speech too and that it is not an ability unique to Blu.
[ Sample ] :
Dear Mun post
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] :
Obviously I plan on him staying the size of an ordinary canary, but hopefully with a necklace-style SFC for him to touch with his beak to activate. He's capable of supporting it with his wings for face-forward videos & voice responses. I personally don't plan on having him type ever; I think he can recognize words, but not write them back out.

[ Character's Name ] : Selphie Tilmitt
[ Character's Age ] : 18/19
[ Series ] : Final Fantasy VIII
[ Canon Point ] : End of game.
[ History ] :
Selphie's wiki page: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Selphie_Tilmitt
And, Selphie comes complete with a Vatheon history too. The girl spent around 18 months there, and in that time she really blossomed. Selphie made many close friends, and even a couple of enemies, during her time at Vatheon. She took the chocobo barn under her wing, caring for all the birds and teaching the citizens of Vatheon how to do the same. Selphie's always been quick to make friends, but in Vatheon she learned how to let go to (due to the nature of people coming and going so frequently). Still, Selphie fought on, and continued to look after her new home – and that included plenty parties too.
[ Personality ] :
Selphie's always considered the happy-go-lucky bouncy one of the group. She enjoys life, and tries to do so to the full no matter what scenario she's in. Selphie always fights to see the bright side, and is very much concerned in having others share her happiness. Happiness and excitement are very important to Selphie and are integral to who she is as a person, and to how she reacts in dangerous circumstances.
Despite being the little giggly bundle of laughs, Selphie's a very determined individual. If there's a mission at hand, she'll go out of her way and do everything she can to get it done. Sometimes she'll go gungho and act before she thinks, which has lead her into trouble in the past, but she gives her heart and soul to everything she does and is commended for her spirit. She would probably do well to slow down and think, but compulsion is another of Selphie's great character traits.
Selphie has a fear of losing her memory. Having already forgotten about her childhood, she's very nervous at the concept of losing it again. The idea really unnerves her, and she is completely unsure how she would respond in such a situation. More likely than not, it will make her very anxious and quite depressed. Whether she shows it in front of others or not, is another matter.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Selphie's strengths lie in her determination, and also in her skilled use of magic with her nunchucks! Whoo hoo! Selphie really has no weaknesses, other than being alone, which sucks much of her happy energy away. Oh, and she plays a mean guitar.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Loves parties! Given some people, no doubt Selphie will try and make them all become friends with each other.
[ Sample ] :
Huh? Selphie wakes from one bizarre dream, patting her hair done while her eyes blink open. Her arms stretch high above her head, a lazy yawn escaping from her open mouth. "Huh..." It was a good sleep, somehow but - Selphie blinks rapidly, bending her neck to look at her arm. Holding her wrist close, she tries to make out the mark. "What is it...?" In her sleepy state, she tries rubbing at it. "Well, you're a stubborn mark." She looks at it a little longer, tilting her head as she examines it. "At least it's kinda pretty!"
Selphie's blog entry:
So, this morning was pretty weird. I woke with with a KILLER headache and I mean KILLER. Guess I'm kinda clumsy, but I've no idea what could've made hurt so BAD. Anyway, so I wake up all confused and rubbing my head and I'm soaking too! I mean, my dress and my hair and my boots. My skin is wet. Did I fall in the bath? With my clothes on? That's crazy, even for me.
I hate not remembering. I hate not knowing what happened. My memory seems...blank somehow. Where is everyone?
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : Uhm...copied and pasted my last app with added bits too for fun. Is that legal? If not, lemme know, and I'll scramble up something new!
